When I started with TC it seemed like my kanthal setup tasted better. Never the less I carried on and vaped with temp control exclusively for 6 weeks. When I tried my kanthal builds after six weeks the temp control setup tasted better so I stayed with it. A lot of what we think is good, better, or best is just what we are used to. The human palete is adaptable. Titanium wire lets me make temp control builds that are as energy efficient as my 1.5 ohm kanthal builds and it makes my rda's practical enouogh to use when I'm out and about. I'll be sticking with temp control.

Yes, but with my gunky juice, titanium coils just flat STOP WORKING after about a day -- and I can't afford to replace titanium coils every day.

I would never try to tell anyone what they should prefer. Lots of vapers are going to settle on a vaping ritual they like and stay with that so these forums will be full of diversity. It's also worthwhile to have a good understanding of the options and tradeoffs. I wish there was an online school of vapeology where we could learn the basics and test knowledge. What I envision wouldl be fairly technical. When the industry is big enough and rich enough perhaps there could be a collaboration to get that done. Well informed consumers would make more realistic demands and the industry would benefit from that IMO.

crazy thing....

i tried sucking a lot harder, ie. more air flow, and also sucking a little bit after firing to cool the coil, just as an experiment. also i had a relatively thin wick rolled up inside my coil. 6mls and juice is not darkening and taste is not diminishing!! i haven't looked at the coil/wick yet, because i haven't felt the need to rewick, but i'm pretty sure this is the root of the problem. pretty sure the wick won't be scorched or at least not as scorched.

hooray?

For the least amount of maintenance, flavorless juice with synthetic wicks would be the way to go IMHO.
Still using silica myself, had my fun with cotton and that rewicking every few days bs,

My coils dont require custom tools either, wrap it right on the wick, done for 2-4 months, more if I get lazy. 5 min for a dry burn at lunch and good for another week or 2.

Did this one about 3 months ago,

It sounds like maybe you just had too much wick, and that definitely will cause burning. More airflow though, it's not really about "sucking harder", but having more air available near the coil, to cool it -- bigger airflow holes, or more of them. But making the coil skinnier helps in that regard, there's just more "flow," period -- air, juice, etc.

Learning to build coils is really not hard at all -- twisting wire around something, mounting it around screws or thru posts. Getting the proper amount of wick though, that's a true art, and it's just something you have to learn as you go -- and it changes, depending on the inner diameter of the coil. I've finally settled on 3/32 drillbits as the optimum size for the way I vape, and the amount of wick I generally use. But even after building coils and wicking them for well over a year now, sometimes I have too much, and have to yank it out and start over. It should slide easily thru the coil, without "catching"... yet should fill the coil, without any airspace around it.
