Smokin95- have you tried rayon for a wick? I find it much better material than cotton in my kayfuns. It's not nearly as picky about how it's installed and delivers better flavor IMHO.
I'm new to the KFL+, I just got mine this past June, and I like (and use) Rayon too.
I don't have any problems with wicking.
I pull my wick up, and cut it flush with the lower part of the chimney, then push the tails down into the well area, prime that good, reassemble, and go.

Knock wood, but that's been working great for me.
I bought several authentic for my doomsday stash (Dash Vapes), and then two of the EHPro to have if I don't want to take a more expensive set up out somewhere.
Both the authentics and the clones worked well for me with that wicking set up.

Like the OP mentioned, I thought I tasted wet cotton when I used cotton, but that was just me.
I think you just have to try all the different ones and see what tastes or works best for you.
But if someone hasn't tried rayon, I definitely say give it a try. I personally *really* like it.

I find the flavor is "off" for the first 3-4 toots with rayon, then it is fine. With cotton, I could always get a hint of wet t shirt, no matter how new or old the wick was.
I did too. For me, it seems to help to really saturate the wick before I reassemble it, but like you said...it's just a few toots/draws, so for me, either way is a non-issue.
But yes, definitely wet t-shirt type taste.

Where do you guys buy rayon?
Sally's Beauty Supply, or online from their website, or Amazon.
This is what I bought the first time...
CelluCotton Beauty Coil 10ft.

This is the one I bought, and am using from now.
CelluCotton Beauty Coil 500 ft.

The bag says 100% cotton, the online description says "rayon" fibers....
The 500ft. box says "rayon".

I thought that "visually" they looked exactly the same. I bought the larger size just to be absolutely sure that I had the right thing.
I think there are other sources, maybe others will post their sources, and thoughts as well. :)

I saturate with unflavored in my usual nic and ratio. Generally don't know what flavor will be next ;)

So when that flavor, whatever it was, starts coming though I'll know it's wicking well, and crank it up to what's best for that flavor.

That's a great idea! :)
I'm boring, I vape the same few flavors.

I find that the amount of wick affects wicking tremendously. If I don't get strong vapor in the first 5 or 10 draws after wicking I break it down and replace the wick again.

What works for me with Koh Gen Do and Sally's cotton coil is a wick that requires twisting as I pull to get it in place. Once it's centered I pull it lightly back and forth to "size" the wick inside the coil. The wick starts off tight and loosens up as I gently pull it back and forth.

That's what gets me the most vapor from a Kayfun. A loose wick is not going to transfer enough juice to maintain flow to the coil.

There's a lot of gold Kayfuns for sale on vendor sites. I have to wonder if the gold wears off after a while. I like Black.

I have several of the gold and "warm gold" EHPros in daily use, some for at least a couple years now. No degradation of the finish on any. Other brands, don't know :)

That's good to know. I haven't seen any issues in my Stainless and Black finish Kayfuns. They are more like a high gloss metal stain than a painted finish. I'm not sure what process is used.
