So I recently started vaping HCPro Kayfun lite + V2 on my Vamo v5 building coils with 1.4mm ID and organic Cotton for wicking. I'm using 28 gauge Kanthal between 1.2 & 1.6 ohms and it vapes ok but I know it could be better. One problem is that it takes a long time for coil to heat up and I tend to get a nasty taste with long lung pulls, doesn't taste burnt but it's not pleasant. I'm fairly confident on my cotton and experiment with less and more. My question is If I want more dense flavorful vape should it start building larger ID coils with less wraps which can hold more cotton? Or will larger coils with less wraps open up
more issues? Thx in advance any help
is appreciated.

Eh, I experimented with large and small coil builds and got the best performance out of micro coils with fairly small ID and pretty "loose" wicks. I suspect the real problem is that responsiveness, ie how fast it gets up to temperature, gets worse as wire gauge goes down. You'd be a lot better off replacing that 28 with 32 in my opinion. Smaller diameter = more resistance = fewer coils = faster response. Some people like gauges as high as 36, I don't like working with anything higher than 32 as a personal preference. I think it has the best balance between response and surface area.

As for the wick drying out too fast, that seems to just be one of those unfortunate but common downsides to these type of tanks. I admit I didn't really fall in love with the tank until the first time I wicked it with rayon instead of cotton. The massive increase in wicking performance just plain made it work like it was supposed to, every time, and I sure don't miss the cotton taste, but I understand some people are paranoid about using it because of the stigma against it being "man made".
