Hi everyone! :)

I recently bought an EVOD BCC vaporizer from a vape store.

After just under a week of smoking on it, I started to notice a small change in flavour, basically a tiny taste of the vape itself being "burnt". I figured it was time to change coil, so I did (bought a 5-pack of replacement coils), filled in fresh juice, fired it up, started to smoke, and hooooly .... what an awful taste! It was really warm smoke, my mouth hurt - luckily I didn't inhale it.

After reading some threads in here, I tried to change the coil again - just in case I had a bad replacement coil (they are all sealed, but I tried anyway) - same thing with the other new one.

I disassembled the vaporizer and soaked the parts - except the battery of course - in lukewarm water for a while, before patting it dry and doing a reassembly. I also did a "dry burn" (is that the name?) by pushing the buttons for a few seconds without any juice, and with the plastic cap removed temporarily.
Let it dry again, refilled fresh juice, and.. same thing. Changed the V from 4.8 and 4.4 down to 3.6 and 3.2 just to test it, but no dice.

It's not vapor anymore - it's smoke. It tastes awful, and it stays in the air for as long as cigarette smoke :/

Any other ideas? The store I bought it in is inaccessible for me now, I bought it when I was travelling, but it was a legit store in the US.

Pics of the e-cig and such:

When you change the head prime the new one with a drop or two on each exposed wick & one or two down the air tube, let sit a minute then gently blow down the air tube.
Fill tank, assemble, take a few un powered primer puffs, turn down power to 3.2 - 3.6 ish, press button take a few small drags then a few primer puffs.
After you taste your liquid slowly increase power to desired level taking a few drags along the way, a new head sometimes will work better at a lower power than the old one. Give the wicking material time to fully saturate.

Likely Topwater's response is the one. Primer puff, which he mentioned - that means to draw without firing, to pull more juice onto the wick and coil.

If you've burned the wick/coil/insulator, you probably also got that taste into the juice in the topper, and if so, dump it. Clean the topper in hot running water (fill, agitate with thumb and finger over both ends, dump, repeat) until you don't smell anything. Dry and try with a new coil.

Good luck, and welcome to ECF!

Wow, this community is incredible, thanks a lot for the warm welcome, everybody! :D

I tried the things you said - I emptied the juice, cleaned my coil and tank in water, dripped some juice directy onto the wicks, let it sit for some minutes, and "dry-pulled" for a while before trying again.

Still, same taste, and still smoke instead of vape.
I will try another juice now - just in case. Any other suggestions?
If not, maybe I should buy another one? Whick one do you guys recommend for starters? :)

Thanks a lot, guys!

Okay, I changed to another coil - my third ^^
Dripped juice on it, fired it up after a minute on low volt (3.2 - 3.4), and it seems fine now. If I turn up the volt, it gets really hot after a few puffs, and the taste differs when I reach max 4.4 - 4.8, I smoked solely on 4.4 the first week without any problems.

Weird, but at least I can smoke on the low setting now! :) Any of you with a similar vaporizer, does the vape stay in the air inside your apartments for ~30-40 secs after you take a puff, or does it disappear faster than that? I'm just kinda scared that I'm inhaling something toxic alongside of the vape.

Thank you so much for your help - all of you! Every reply is helpful! :D

I started on evods and my wife still uses them (and of course I'm still responsible for rebuilding heads). The thing with stock evod coils is they don't wick fast enough for chain vaping. It is very easy to get dry hits after 5 or 6 back to back puffs.

Some things you want to consider is your juice viscosity, I found going over 60 VG causes problems with wicking on these. 50/50 seems to work well.

I wouldn't run those higher than about 8 watts. The stock coils, if I'm not mistaken are 32 gauge wire which heats quickly even at lower power.

You may consider rewicking with organic cotton, you will get much better flavor and it will wick more efficiently than silica does. I've been doing that almost since I started and won't vape silica wicks anymore. There are some YouTube vids that have rewicking tutorials for protank heads (which are the same).

Hope this helps, evods kept me off the cigs, hope you have the same luck.

I also started on Evods and I found lower temps were the best for the flavor.. I also used sweet dark juices which means I have to change coils more often.
Sounds like maybe you burnt the rubber insulater on the first time. Everyone has given good advice,
Hope things work out for you. I still use the evods and make make my own coils.. Good luck

That, and the possibility that the coils aren't all the same value, or aren't even if marked the same. One of the reasons many of us rebuild them. Cheaper, too, but obviously more work than swap and toss. The spares you bought may not be the same value as the one that came in the topper.

Always a good idea to start low and work up the power.

Try and get a different tank like the Aspire Nautilus Mini I had those EVODS for awhile and I had nothing but problems with them

I let juice soak into the wicks at least 5 minutes, preferably 30, and find Kanger BCCs "tuned" rather hot. Usually run 3.7V or so into the 2.2 and 2.5 ohm coils; the 1.8's are just tolerable at 3.4 . I don't like to have to vape a specific way to avoid burning.

The burning is at least partially toxic, but also immediately obnoxious and noticeable (sometimes after any real toxicity is long gone).

I agree here. If you don't want to mess with rewicking or rebuilding those heads, the aspire bvc coils are awesome out of the package. Also if you don't wanna pay around 30 for the nautilus mini they make a little clearo called the K1 glassomizer. About like a mini protank but with little aspire bvc heads. They are probably pretty comparable in flavor to the nautis but I haven't used one. They are all mouth to lung hitting lower power coils.

I use evods almost everyday. 1.8 ohm coils at 3.7 volts (or 7.6 watts in today's lingo).

I use mostly my own coils, but on occasion I will throw in a stock coil when I'm lazy. The stock coils come in different ohms (1.8 2.2 and 2.5 I think). The ohms are stamped on the base...but that's not always accurate. My last pack of coils were labeled and stamped as 1.8 but my meter said they were 2.5. Bottom line is you can never be sure of the ohms unless you have a meter. That's why you start on low voltage and work your way up until it taste right.

Evods were made before the whole sub-ohm craze, so they are not really designed or meant for high volt/high watt vaping, IMO.

What others have said, I concur. High VG is not best for the evod and let them wick for a few minutes (maybe even more than a few), then do a few pulls without firing to draw the liquid into the wick.
