Is a 26650 mod a good choice?

Hey ECF, unfortunately I lost my vape a couple weeks ago and have been smoking cigarettes more than I would like to so I am on the market for a new mech mod. I was very close to pulling the trigger on the copper hades but I have begun to doubt the superiority of the 26650 battery. The sony vtc5 is 2600 mah and has a better continuous amperage rating than the best 26650 batteries on the market which typically range around 3500 mah. I am hoping that someone that has experience with both 18650 and 26650 mods can chime in on how much more battery life they get from a 26650 vs a 18650 and any other benefits to 26650's.

I can't answer your question due i dont have a 26650. But i do know that sony got a fat battery with 50A in 26650 mode. Might be of interest aswell.

I have a Hades clone and it really works good with my drippers because of the extra battery juice available from the Sony. I haven't really paid attention to battery life compared with my 18650s though. I don't like it with my KFL+ or Russian and especially not with my Aspire Nautilus as I get a lot of dry hits. Too much current available and not enough airflow is my best guess.

26650 battery technology is actually considerably further behind the curve compared to 18650 batteries. As far mechanical and sub ohm building go, 18650 is far and away the better choice. As far as battery longevity, well if you are doing high drain batteries and sub ohm builds you are just plain used to ripping through batteries, if you aren't then either one of them should realistically last you all day, and beyond that who cares? Might as well preserve the batteries and charge them at the end of the day even if they could go longer.

Realistically, think of the ohm difference between your two examples there, just 900 mah. How long would a 900 mAh ego last you? Tack that on to however long your 18650 usually lasts you and there you go.

I've got the Tobeco Hades V3 clone topped with a Tobeco Tobh 26650 clone as well as a Tobeco Kayfun Lite Plus 26650 clone and a Sigreen 26650 and these things rock. The battery life of the 26650 is great and as far as a big hitter, I'm really happy with any of the toppers on the Hades clone. The big advantage to the 26650 toppers is there is Sooooooomuch room to build on. The Tobeco line is about as close to 1:1 as you can get, no complaints from me at all.

I think your focus at the moment is to get away from the smokes! Your choice between the 26650 or 18650 is dependent on whether you want functionality or you want something to play around with. Its going to cost less to get into an 18650 setup and you have far more choices at the moment in this format than you do in 26650 format. If I were in your shoes I'd pick up an 18650 mod and a kayfun so I didn't have to buy cigs and look at toys later! IMHO!

I disagree in a sense with 18650 being cheaper. My first mechanical mod is a 26650, and it was cheaper at the local shop, but I agree options are more. For me, I hated the size of an 18650. In videos it looks big, but in person it felt like I was holding a sharpie. The best way I can compare the 2 on battery life is what the shop told me. One guy sub-ohms he said once every couple minutes he'd take a "hit" so to speak. On an 18650 he would only last one hour max, and had to constantly charge batteries. The other guy same coil build, same time frame with taking "hits", says he could on average get 4 hours on a battery. I get about 4-5 hours before I notice the battery going down and change it. I have no regrets about 26650.

I had an Nzonic with a w3 around .25 as my all day vape for about 3 months. I got about an hour of good hits.(efest 30A) Even though this is within the capability of the battery, it is still venturing into the not so safe realm. I have a hades mod now and it lasts me a full day with two batteries .3 on mnke 4000mah.(I usually swap by 3.9-4.0 volts). I lost my fire button at a concert recently and went and bought another Hades mod. So, I definitely like it. Something to note though. The technology is definitely behind 18650. The Sony 50A is a PULSE rating. So is the 60 on the MNKE. Sony is rated at 26 continuous and MNKE is 20. So, the 18650's definitely have better amp ratings, but I haven't had issues with heating up on the 26650's. It's kinda hard to take more that a 3 second drag on 50-60 watts.

RTD Vapor has a 4200 mah 50 amp 26650 battery... KeepPower IMR 26650 4200mAh 50amp - RTD vapor

Not sure if its 50 amp continuous or pulse... they also have a 20 amp 5200 mah 26650.

Note: Looked at some tests of the battery and looks like its actually 20 amp continuous and 50 amp pulse.

Panasonic has 26650 50 amp battery is which quite similar to the Sony's.(which has been discontinued according to popular deal site)

I have two 26650 mods, and it works fine for my needs...like somebody already stated, it's for home use ...
the lowest build I have on them .5 ohm and .8 something build... Whatever you get make sure you 26650 mod caters it your vape style...if you're doing really super sub-ohming (.4 and lower)..then I would avoid anything with springs in the 510 connector...major voltage drop where it's noticeable...and it could collaspe the spring same with cheap springs in firing pin. causing major issues

One good thing about cloning..there are quite a few selection of 26650 mods now besides the Hades....
Just do a search on Fasttech...

I did some research on them when I saw them and they are a high discharge battery, but they are definitely a low grade one. Found a very technical round of tests done by one of the flash light enthusiast groups. They said those ratings were more than a little bit optimistic, more like outright lies. I personally prefer to stick to mnke or sony, from a trusted supplier that I think isn't going to give me counterfeits. Just my opinion, but if you are chasing those sub ohm vapes I don't think you can be too careful when it comes to battery safety. I want to vape my face off, not blow it off.
