After a lot of frustration with the istick TC40 I'm looking for an alternative small TC MOD. I also have an evic VT which is OK but far from perfect and would ideally like something a bit smaller for work etc.

I REally like the look of the ipv D2 but am put off a bit by the ridiculous charging connector. Why can't they use a micro USB like everybody else? Other options of a similar size seem to be the sbody macro and VS DNA40.

Any thoughts / experiences with these devices? Or any other recommendations?

You could hold out a week or so for the eVic Mini. Same board as your VT, and just a bit larger than your iStick TC, but you may not like it because it has a user replaceable battery, which neither of your other TC devices seem to have. Does have a micro USB charge port, however.

A replaceable 18650 battery is why most IPV D2 owners don't really worry about the charge connector, many if not most 18650 users these days prefer to just swap batteries and charge outside the device. Almost always faster charging, safer, and no worries about USB connectors going bad, as they're wont to do.

I can't recommend anyone buying a DNA40 device, with so many other more affordable and more capable mods out there now.

The only TC mod I currently have is a VS rDNA40 and it has been flawless so far but isnt near as small as the 3 mods you listed. Im also in the market for another TC mod as a back-up to the VS. From what Ive read and seen the Sbody macro is roughly the same size as a VS DNA40 but has the removable 18650 whereas the DNA40 has a built-in battery.

Im also on the fence about the D2 and the charging port but Im really close to pulling the trigger on it for the price it seems like a great little TC mod to carry to work.

The 3.5mm charging port works great..
Don't know why you call it ridiculous when obviously you haven't even tried it yet, but I could be wrong

.. Because I like the silicon sleeve on mine I charge it using the supplied 3.5 mm cord with no issues at all ..batt fully charges under two hrs ..full charge is indicated when the red led light goes out...just because its not like everybody else (USB) does not mean it's a bad design...it works great and to me that's all that matters

I don't think it is a bad design, but since I have micro USB cables at my office, at my PC, in my car & in my bedroom, I opt for a different mod than this one for my next purchase. I was really going to buy this one otherwise.

the vs dna40 is an easy no go compared to the other 2. having a removable battery is awesome imho. the macro adds zip charging, which, in a pinch is awesome. the macro is much lighter and slightly smaller than the d2. i guess it depends on chipset. dna or yihi?
I suppose..but the D2 is a powerhouse with 75w available... Almost twice as much as the DNA 40...just sayin

Works fine with a single cell. Some folks like small mods with big power. Some folks hate bricks and don't mind swapping batteries every few hours, more time is spent dripping or refilling tanks than changing batteries by an order of magnitude at that power level.

As for the charge port, I haven't USB charged anything in months, and probably won't again if I can avoid it. Don't like vaping with a live wire hanging out, for one thing, don't have to worry about my charge not being topped off when I go somewhere, I just put in a fresh battery from my collection of quality 18650s and out the door I go.

Agreed...I get about 7-9 hrs on this mod vaping it on and off all day long using the .25 ohm coil in the Maganus at 55w using the red IMREN batt rated 38A/2600 mAh...
Because I have the silicon sleeve on it I've been using the supplied charge cord plugged into a 5v wall charger...fully charges under two hrs...meantime I usually vape one of my IPV4's . but it does charge up pretty fast...can't say enough about this little D2...Its great!

3.5mm charge port is One hundred thousand times better than a Micro USB for charging purposes.
Just ask any of the 100,000+ Tablet owners with FAILED micro USB Charging Ports.
Simpler and more reliable. No need to follow weaker patented USB standards that restrict needed functional changes.

Read a bit in the D2 thread for some owners reviews and opinions of what has already proven to many to be a very good purchase.

So that's ANOTHER cable/item I have to carry around or buy multiples of?

    No thanks.
    Lol
You can swap batts out in like 15 seconds..very fast and easy thanks to the battery cover that slides on and off via ball bearings (like the IPV4)
I don't carry around a bunch of extra charging cords either. Lol ..only the one that came with it.. Charge plug on one end and USB on the other end....it let's me charge from my computer, a 5v cell phone charger and from the USB port on my high end deck in my truck..just one cable...but suite yourself. Lol

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm going to order the IPV D2, once UK stock is available. Main benefit being extra power and Ti capability and also cost of course.

The charging cable will be a bit of a pain though, as you can always get hold of a Micro usb cable, if you get stuck without spare batteries. However I'm sure it will be manageable.

Just received the D2 in the mail this morning. Really impressed with it so far.

Currently using STM with the ni200 coils, and it working far better than both the Evic and Istick. Also tried a nickel build in the RBA but don't think my coil building skills are quite there yet.

can't wait for my Uwell Crown tank to arrive, hoping this will be the perfect set up with the D2
