I get my blunt needles from an ecig vendor I wouldn't want to mess with anything sharp . Not sure what the guage is but I have a couple of fairly good size ones and one really perfect size one . So is it the lower the guage number the wider it is ? I think the good one maybe 16g but I am not sure .

Yes, they are wire gauge sizes. For example, the copper wire in your wall switches and plugs is 14 and 12 gauge. The wires in your telephone line might be around 18.
