i recently purchased an innokin itaste vtr and within a week of using it i noticed that the "bronze" color on the extension tube was wearing off and was wondering if anyone here could answer a few questions reguarding it.
i would like to remove the thin "color". which looks like it would come off quite easily but wonder....
if the extension tube is stainless steel ??
because its definitely not "polished" like the rest of the unit
and since its not i would like to try and put a buffing wheel on it to polish it
but i'm worried that the heat of the polishing wheel might harm something internally in the extension tube.
i dont know if theres anything that can be hurt inside of it,,,thats why i'm asking.
any insight would be greatly appreciated

I can't personally answer the question of if the tube is stainless steel; however, I would say that buffing the extension tube for the VTR would cause no harm. The extension tube is literally just a hunk of metal to conduct electrical current from the bottom to the top. Judging from the weight of the tube, I would guess that it is mostly hollow with a small metal column running through the center of it. No wires. Just use a light buffing pad on a small area at first to test the results. If you're worried about heat warping any of the metal inside the tube...well, I just don't see that happening unless you get it to the melting point which simply isn't going to happen.

Just keep in mind, this tube is hollow so don't over-buff or put too much pressure on it - you don't want to puncture the tube. But again, that shouldn't even be an issue.

It cant be stainless steel if it has a broze color wearing off or a plating that looks like it can come off easily;
my guess is it is chrome plated brass.

I doubt there's anyting in there to damage although possibly there's wire with solder;

but somebody else cut there extension tube recently so they should know what's inside there- posted about it about 2 or 3 days ago.

There would be insulator rings inside to isolate the center positive pin; so depending on the material of that you don't want too much heat.

I had my extension go through a hot fire. The coating fried off in part showing a bright shinny surface underneath. The coating appears to be a paint type. The tube and end pieces are much more polished than the picture shows. I also put a magnet to it and it is non-magnetic. I think it is stainless steel as the aluminum objects next to it melted and its too thin-walled to be brass. There is a wire running between both connectors, silicon sheathed. You shouldn't have to worry about the heat from buffing. Here's the pic:
