I've been smoking for almost a decade and have decided to try vaping. After sharing the news with my loved ones and before starting my search for a brand and model -- only to be warned about the possibility of it exploding in your face while vaping.

Quick search around the web showed many articles about users who bought and seemingly used it off the shelves without modding. From brands where the manufacturer or retail have stated "highest quality" in their promotions. Of course brands can say what they want, but it is up to the consumer's due diligence that will pave the logic to whether or not to believe the claims.

My concern is a brand (with the impression that most comes from china) that had designed a model that was borderline wrong from start. Making it hard for the consumers to judge if it is truly safe or not. (i.e. Explosions are limited because it is borderline "safe")

I've read around that using best batteries, correct charging and discharging is the way to go; likewise with all devices that uses a lithium ion battery.

So my questions are:
1. What are some known brand names who have designed their device correctly (with the right voltage and amp and battery etc...)

2. Are they the same for charging in other countries outside of the manufacturer? I live in South-East Asia.

3. What is "battery protection", "connection/circuit protection" or any protection for the matter? How can we tell aside from the brand's claim? Is it some kind of ballistic shield?

4. This is titled industry leader because I believe in a brand that lasted from the start is a brand that knows best and has been improving in their design; essentially regulating themselves and possibly be consulting authorities on what should be the safety standards - should the time come. Though are there any really?

5. Anything else I should know with regards to safety?

6. Any tips on ordering online and getting it safely delivered in a country that bans vaping?

Thanks in advance to anyone who replies!!

Most, if not all, of the incidents that you read about were caused by using the wrong charger for the device or using the wrong batteries in something like a mechanical mod and pushing the batteries past what is safe.

If you buy a regulated PV I don't think you will have to be overly concerned about it blowing up. If you chose to go with a mechanical PV (not recommended for your first device) please do your research before buying and using it.

For a beginner stay with Istick or Kanger then after you get some experience & understanding branch out into something bigger & better......or just stay with those. They are not the biggest & baddest but they do a very nice job & they are not likely to blow up.

You are in a tough spot regarding vaping in Singapore. Many, many people from SG sign up with stories of their product being seized by customs. So from what we have seen over the past couple of years is that most online orders will get seized by customs.

Check out this forum: SG Vapers. Make sure you read all the "stickies" as there are special rules you must follow when posting (in the SG forum) due to the sensitivity of vaping in SG.

You won't be able to ask where to buy hardware/juice in SG as your government monitors/reads ECF forum posts. It's all explained here => Newbies Q&A Thread. [PLEASE READ]

If you are able to travel by personal car (and are willing to take the risk on getting back through customs) check out vape shops across the causeway. Be aware, customs is on "high alert".
Additional Information
=========

If you are interested in learning more about e-cigarettes (and all the parts and pieces) below are some blog posts by ECF member @Baditude that I highly recommend for someone new to vaping.
He also has many other blog posts on battery safety/Ohm's Law: Baditudes Blogs

Here are a few more links from New Members Information <= Link covers many topics. Here are two of them:
Nicotine

A "general guideline" for nicotine concentration in e-liquid to the number of cigarettes smoked per day. If you are subohming (resistance under 1.0Ω) cut these nicotine levels by at least 50%.

06 mg = 10 cigarettes or less
12 mg = 20 cigarettes
18 mg = 30 cigarettes
24 mg = 40 cigarettes

eLiquid/Juice

PG = Propylene Glycol - the "flavor carrier" of e-liquid. A secondary source of "throat hit", but not as strong as the nicotine concentration. Some people have a sensitivity or even an allergy to PG. It's very thin.

VG = Vegetable Glycerin - the "vapor maker" of e-liquid. Used as a sweeter in many food sources, and also as a skin emollient. It's very thick. Often labeled just "Glycerine"

PG and VG are often used together in different ratios in e-liquid. For example, a 50/50 PG/VG ratio. Some juice vendors offer a range of different ratios as far as PG/VG.

Every every every every explosion I have read about was user error, almost every time the media blames the device and makes vaping looks dangerous..

I would never recommend a mechanical mod to a newbie, vape on a regulated mod, get a real good understanding of battery safety, amp draw, ohm's etc etc then move on to a mech if you want to...

ipv3 li all the way, its a powerhouse! 200 fecking WATTS! the menu is easy to adjust, support both nickel n titanium, it'll saved u from upgrading ur mod anywhere in the near future. though it might be a little too big for u to carry around, but hey.. u from sg right? u don need to carry ur mod everywhere u go.:)

ordering online is subject to a matter of research n luck, i advice u not to do so now becos singpost is tightening their security due to the paris bombing incidence.
