So this has got me stumped.

I've been using 26G Kanthal for a while. My dual coil builds have been 5/6 wraps on a 1/16" drill bit, and came out to 0.28Ω every single time. I just got a new roll of 26G in the mail, and now my 5/6 are reading in at 0.24Ω, and a 6/7 reads in at 0.28Ω. What's the deal here?

I'd say they sent me the wrong wire, but I doubt it's even a gauge off because a 5/6 of 28G reads in at 0.54Ω. It's too small a difference.

Hmm... :?:

Did it come from the same company? Manufacturing tolerance differences maybe? Or purity of raw materials? Did you compare some of the old with the new side by side or with a micrometer to see if there is a slight difference in thickness? If your coil legs are consistently the same length, then I have no other ideas. I'm sure someone with more knowledge about these things will be along with suggestions.

I would have to agree with CAT, if it is the same manufacturer I would contact them. If it different manufacturers just the source of their raw materials can make a difference. For the most part we buy a certain guage wire, it is going to be close, but we are not ordering a product with a =/- tolerance to the nth degree, add to that not all manufactures equal. A Timex and a Rolex are both watches but not the same.
