I have read a bunch of the posts here regarding "the best" and since every user is different there is as many answers as here are new users... would someone be so kind as to steer me in a direction.
Me...PAD more or less (lookie I used an abbr I found here) for 30 years. Currently smoke Virginia Slims super slim menthol lights (yea skinny girly cigs) I only smoke at home (evenings) or when driving. I want to quit (tried patch, gum etc) if not totally nicotine free, then at least not smell like a cigerette andget rid of some of the bad that comes from smoking cigs and e cigs seem to be a good step...so please, suggestions on what starter would best suit my needs, money is a factor, but I understand you get what you pay for.
Thank you for any responses

Since you don't smoke a lot (just evenings, like something slim) you may like one of the new KR808's like the Volt. I have never used it so I can't tell you much of anything about it. I do know that there is a 23% off coupon code floating around.

It's pretty popular so maybe someone that owns one will be able to hook you up.

Good luck!

100mah is about 1 hour of moderate vaping

A KR808D-1 (I think Volt is one?). Also look at Vapor4Life.com which is KR808D-1 - the discount coupon code JULY4TH gives 23% off on July 4th only. I recommend manual batteries. Standard size batteries are 280mah

Or the other starting favorite is Joye 510 manual (180mah, see Cignot.com) or Joye 510 mega xl manual (280mah, see FreedomSmokeUSA.com) and I highly recommend using Boge standard resistance cartomizers and manual batteries.

Then you just need to find juices that you like. I find thin juices (20% VG or less, or the Vapor4Life non-VG juices) and particularly thin clear juices make the cartomizer work well the longest.

The KR8 has prefilled cartomizers from Vapor4Life, Bloogplanet, Smoketip

510 you would probably be using blank cartomizers (Boge is best liked and you must use the standard resistance ones, not LR). Vaporkings.com and LiquidXPress have some prefilled 510 cartos but the Vaporkings ones sound like standard Chinese juice and the LiquidXpress ones are poorly stocked.

Prefilled or not, you will be adding juice to keep the carto damp so you can get many days use out of one carto.

KR8 is hotter. I use a plastic or delrin drip tip (from LiteCigUSA.net) instead of the white cap at the mouth end of the carto, as a comfortable mouthpiece (not to drip into).

510 - I think with a nicely filled Boge carto I may get bigger drags from this setup, and the threaded end of the manuals is totally sealed metal so this setup is very safe from damage by juice leaks. If you don't mind the length of the mega xl manuals (128mm w/ a Boge carto) then they are very nice. But if you go out (to a club or something) and vape there, then I might recommend the standard 510 manuals and the lovely PCC charging case from NoSMokeVA.com - the case is so roomy as well as being that familiar shape. If you open it, you need to restart any charge you had it doing.

if you are like the rest of us, you will eventually end up with both. I actually vape both. So just pick the one you want to try first. And note - some flavors at Vapor4Life can have strong TH. For a lights smoker I recommend you aim around 11mg and try the 16-18mg and try the 6mg too. I am not a menthol smoker but their WOWboy is a dark cocoa-y tobacco w/ some might added. I use the WOWbacco which is the same w/o the mint. I also like their WOW Vanilla which is a sweet marshmallowy vanilla. And I buy the blanks and use thin juices from elsewhere. They have a NuPort flavor and maybe some other menthols. Not sure if there is a menthol sampler

In my 510 manual and 510 mega xl manual is where I vape the WOWbacco in Boge cartos - so nice. I also vape some Dekang (Chinese PG thin juice) RY4 in a Boge carto.

Manual batteries - more control of your hit, better sealed against damage by juice leaks, won't turn on accidentally in wind or vibration, less work. if you buy a 510, it comes with atomizer + carts. An OK way to get started. You can get better blue foam stuffing for the carts at strictlyejuice.com cheap. That way carts can be reused over and over. Downside of carts is leaking, need juice more often. And atomizer need to be kept clean. Cartomizers like Boge are disposable combined cart and atomizer. I only use atomizers for dripping with a drip tip to try juices. Then juices I like earn cartos.

re the cheap iVape 510 set - that is not a PCC according to the description, just a carry case. Not that great a deal since it is probably a clone. I am wary of clones since some have reverse polarity and their chargers will melt a real Joye 510 battery. I recommend Cignot.com Joye no-box manual 510. And if you will be vaping outside your home then also the PCC at NoSMokeVA.

Ah, Virgina Slims. I remember those well. I think of them as women lumberjack cigarettes. My sister smoked them and I found it ironic that her husband who looked more manly than she smoked Merit, which were light in contrast. But I don't know of a flavor match to be honest. Virgina Slims only look like sissy cigarettes.

The axiom "you get what you pay for" doesn't apply in this area so much. We are talking about devices that are disposable. Batteries have a limited life, about 300 charge cycles, the atomizers/cartomizers (heating coil) have a limited life. Paying extra for something like "Green Smoke", $100-170 doesn't give you anything extra over a $65 kit from Smokelessimage(Volt). In fact, the Smokeless image short batteries are above par in terms of life, 65mm I believe are rated at 220mah, where shorts in this class are typically 180mAh. (about 100mAh/h moderate use).

Going true ciggie sized is not practical. The 510 and KR808d-1 are considered mini. Supermini like Blu represent double the cost in batteries.

Erowid Tobacco Vault : Nicotine Content #6

Virgina Slims pack a bit of a punch. Slims 22mg/pack, lights 14mg/pack, Ultralight 10mg/pack.
So think medium Nicotine Level

The lowest price and best performing is not ciggie sized. Batteries have a limited life, the bigger the battery the longer you can use it, and the longer it will be useable. The best deal might be too large for you, the Riva 510, $30 base model, you must add fluid to the order, but still.

Smokelessimage (volt) is a fantastic deal for the KR808D-1 with a charging case (PCC). I'm kind of a fan of the Revolver . It's a close cousin to the 510, so it's thinner than the KR808D-1, but longer. It's slightly cheaper, ~$50 vs $65, but to be fair the Volt does have better batteries. It is available in manual (push button rather than sucking), which has a benefit of not being destroyed if your juice drips in the battery.

But the basic recommendation for the ciggie class are going to be either a 510, or a KR808D1. You're buying into a hobby, not a habit, and both represent the widest available options, and the lowest cost to maintain.

I think the most important thing to do is to buy one, and the Volt link is a great place to get started.

You made it to the right place, it's time to jump in and get wet!

This is one time that just jumping is preferable to sitting on the fence too long, you'll probably wind up with two or more sooner or later, so finding 'the one' really isn't as important as buying one and experiencing it for yourself.

But better you found the forum first to get some excellent advice as to where to jump.

Welcome!

OK, let's see:

1) Welcome to ECF (the most important part of your e-cig journey!) Great support group here.
2) Good work with using abbreviations.
3) VS SSM (see.. I can do that too) you won't find a workable e-cig in that form factor, sorry. Don't care what they claim.
4) Cig sized are OK for occasional smokers... but 1 PAD (you must drive a lot ... or smoke like a train at night - lol) you should probably consider a bigger battery e-cig. Although many have used and quit with the KR808's (like SF and others said). It depends.... do you want "style" or "function"? Since form follows function, battery life follows battery size.

Oh, and you've come a long way already........baby. Don't quit finding a solution that works for you.

V4L does have a Virginia menthol prefilled cart. I am not sure about their menthols but I do like the virginia carts! V4L is a little expiensive but everything on their site works together, that's where I started buying things. I bought my first Ecig at a local minimart. CIG2O was the brand, it came with 1 battery, 2 carts and a charger for $17. I was hooked after that! I found what I had was interchangable with lots of other brands. I have built up my collection bit by bit from lots of different suppliers. I find stuff on here for sale and always hit the clearence sections of web sites!

THANK YOU MATT:) I actually understood what you said...feeling like I am getting a handle on this...it's funny how people think VS are girly then they bum one, even more amusing with the super skinny ones I prefer. I have figured out that I am not going to find a "skinny" e cig -or at least one as slim as a super slim cig. so now the question becomes one of function. I really appeciated the nicotine content chart...that will be helpful when deciding on a strength.
