Hello ECF,

I'm pretty new to this vaping experience and have referred to ECF for valuable knowledge. I tried using the search feature for information on the iGo4, but I can't find any. I've purchased an iGo4 and am unsure how many volts its producing. It has a 750 mAh (510 battery I think) and I am using their CE6 clearomizer. Recently, my vaping experience has its highs and lows.

I've swapped over to another clearomizer-bottom feeder and my vaping experience has been better, but I want to upgrade to an RBA. Do I need a new battery? How can I obtain high voltage vaping?

Thanks.

TL;DR Upgrade my iGo4? RBA recommendation? How can I obtain high voltage vaping?

Pick yourself up a Variable Voltage or Variable Wattage device and a few rebuildables to try. Mods use large capacity high performance batteries in conjunction with advanced circuitry to not only give you a lot more bower but also give you precise control through voltage/power adjustability and other settings. Search around, there are hundreds to choose from in the $40-$200 range.

As for rebuildables, I highly recommend an IGO-L. It is a fantastic platform, built like a tank from better materials than other cheaper rebuildable dripping atomizers. It is also a lot more roomy inside than some others which will make the learning process easier. Listen to other people too and do your research, try a couple and find what works for you. You will also need resistance wire (kanthal) and a wicking material of your choice. I prefer silica wick. Do be prepared for a learning curb. However, when you master the are, you will be in total control of your vape and be able to build coils that out preform anything else on the market.

Thanks for the tip. If the price is right i'll try for a $80 mod.

As for RBA, where do you buy the materials? I'd take a guess and say your local hardware store like homedepot ans such. As a general rule of thumb, is it always best to purchase a low resistance wire?

You will be able to find a great device for $80. I stay away from recommending specific mods, but you will do fine in that price range. look around at pictures, watch videos, read reviews, check prices, and with a grain of salt hear what others have to say.

As far as materials go:

I would not recommend buying your resistance wire anywhere other than direct from the manufacturer, TEMCo. If you buy it from anywhere else (with the exception being their ebay store), you are going to pay anywhere between a slight mark up and an unholy out of this world marked up price from a vape shop. To add insult and frustration to injury, most vape shops will cut you off a few feet of wire and put it in a little baggie so that when you pull it out, it turns to a birds nest. Even if you buy the smallest quantity (25 feet -something like $5) TEMCO sends it to you on a spool which is something that people overlook. Like other wire, resistance wire is measured by its diameter which is expressed as its "gauge" or "AWG" for American Wire Gauge. In general we use anything between 26awg and 32awg or so in the vaping world.

I am not sure where the best place is for your wicking materials. I stocked up a while ago and have not bought any recently. I remember that it was one of the fairly well known online vendors, and they had "bulk silica wick" and the prices actually reflected it. Hopefully someone knows who I am talking about, or at least has some other great recommendations.

If you are unfamiliar with volts, Ohms and watts, it would be not advisable to venture into RBAs. I'm sure there are plenty who do, BUT for safety's sake you should do some research first until you have a much better understanding of the device. "High voltage" is not really what you/we are after with vaping. Voltage is only one side of the equation, resistance is the other and wattage is the sum total of the output.

Most people (including myself) use *lower* voltage devices with RBAs because they produce higher wattage at a much lower resistance. If you put 5 volts to a 1.0 to 1.5 ohm RBA you will burn the coil and the vape tastes like ......

If you want higher heat with the same voltage, lower the resistance of the carts/clearo/attys you are using.

Thanks for the tip. I just thought about what range should the wire be. Thankfully, I found a pretty neat picture on ECF for safe vaping wattage. I'll continue to venture with trial and error. After vaping for some time, I'm no longer satisfied with my setup.

Thanks again.

Well, if you want to go "all-in" RBAs are the way to go, BUT understand that VV devices are especially helpful with "pre made" heads with a higher resistance. I have a VAMO and am extremely pleased with it BUT I can't go below 1.3 ohms resistance on my RBAs because of the safety feature in it. My coils are about 1.5-1.7 with a 5/4 wrap of 30ga Kanthol on a AGA-T2. with this set up though, I find my sweet spot is about 3.3 to 3.5 volts. If I crank it much higher than 3.7, my juice tastes nasty because the coil gets just too darned hot. (tastes like electrical wire burning).

To be quite honest, even with my beloved RBAs, I find that VIVI Novas and even a good carto tank to be satisfying. I'm considering going back to clearo/ego twist batteries for when I go "out on the town" because of the size. My mods seem too big to tote around in the bar and such.
