Real original, huh? Anyway, here's my take. It came to me out of nowhere while I was sitting on the couch watching a movie and puffing away.

Okay, so picture this. You wake up in the morning and have a hankering for a big bowl of cereal (in my mind I'm 12 years old again, but you can be however old you want :)). I open the pantry and start looking through all the sugary kid's cereals for something that strikes my fancy. Fruit Loops... nah. Honeycomb... mmm, getting warmer. FiberOne... blech! What does dad see in that stuff, anyway?! Ah! There it is. I grab the bright yellow box. I put some in the bowl and top it off with milk. I take a bite and my mouth is filled with rich graham crackery goodness, with a touch of brown sugar and honey, and maybe a bit of additional sweetness from the whole milk (if you drink 1%... my condolences). Sound familiar? That's because Boba's tastes like... <drum roll>... Golden Grahams!

Fresh off of this revelation of Biblical proportions I turn to my wife and say, "I got it! Taste this and tell me this doesn't taste like Golden Graham's cereal!" She takes a long drag, gets a confused look on her face, and says, "Uh, no it doesn't. It tastes like pipe tobacco."

Sigh... Boba's strikes again.

I give up. Directly out of the mail box it tasted like Mr's Pumpkin mated with a Mr. Tobacco and made a ginger baby who hooked up with Mr. Sugar who's off spring mated with some different Mr. Tobacco who sexed with a half drunk Unicorn. A week later and I get less tobacco, almost no ginger, some vanilla, some graham cracker, slight cocoa but mostly I just get lot's of awesome.

To me it tastes like this minus the two scoops:

Unicorn! That's it; you nailed it! I've definitely tasted dark chocolate, graham cracker, and at times banana, but unicorn was the one element that I couldn't pin down! Initially, I thought it might be fairy dandruff or vampire musk, but it is unicorn. ;)

I still say Anise:
Anise - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, namely the culinary and liquor uses, which would explain some members mention of absinthe, hot chocolate (cocoa), and root beer, or even a ginger/graham cracker like, graham flour being nutty and slightly sweet.

Thanks for making me laugh.

I remember a big debate last year on what secret ingredient is really behind the taste of Bobas and it seems like this was the answer most agreed on--search ecf for the official bobas bounty page or try this site-- Get tully coffee, coffee supply, coffee, espresso, french roast, cappuccino, house blend, french roast, madison blend coffee at Lollicup.com

I looked up "boba" and "tapioca" on wikipedia and the above site seemed to give the best explanation. I keep meaning to go to my local tea house for a boba tea to see if the taste is really the same. Regardless, it is my absolute favorite juice and the one that got me to put out cigs for good.
