Been using the twisted wire coil (in the pic in post #54) in my atty all this week...so I figured I would report back. It does seem to run hotter than a single wire 2.8 ohm coil and is pretty durable. One thing I noticed when I did my weekly cleaning though...after I dry burned the coil I looked at it with my 18X jewelers loupe and the wire had a coating on it that looked like it was sprayed with ruby...oxidation I imagine...just never saw coils have a red/purplish hue to it. It did crumble off if I bent the wire around or scraped it...no biggie.
He may be on to something for sure. To make it I put a piece of stiff wire with a "J" hook on the end in my mini hand drill...folded a 4" 36ga wire...held the two loose ends in one hand and hooked the J in to the fold and spun the drill. Make a nice even twisted wire in seconds so its not hard to make.
Also...I see people talking about repairable CE2's all the time...so I was thinking how this mod's design would work with a CE2. I did a real quick drawing..not to scale...but just to show what I mean. Basically you replace the ceramic cup with a silicone plug...clip the original wires off at the cup and use the rod and spring setup to pinch connect them on to the bottom of the rods...and then all you need to do is replace wire and wicks when needed. Dunno...might work..never tried it.

Oops...forgot to crop the drawing...oh well!
