How to make a 5V mod with a TI regulator.

Yes, the regulator I got was rated for up to 35V max in and 1A out. I figured it would get hot, just not *that* hot.

I have a sample coming from TI of the PTR08100W chip. In the mean time, I plan to play with some heat sinks to see if I can get it to run cooler - Plus a big heat sink on it might look neat.

I live up in Wisconsin, I'll have to keep this one for my winter time PV it will surely keep my hands nice and warm!

DR, I think you could use a man hole cover for a heat sink and it will still shut down.

If you look at the numbers... an atty is around 2.2 ohms (some higher some lower) and you are using a 5 volt requlator.... that means that the regulator is doing everything it can to give you 11.3 watts of power.

The problem is that the one you are using is only good for 5 watts max..

The 3 amp regulators have a max of of 15 watts. If you could find a 3 amp regulator you could just replace the one you have with the new one.

It would be a lot less work than making a new one with the PTR08100W, but I love making new mods and you might too.
