How much saline and DW?

I'm new at this…. but have been making 50/50 PG/VG at 6mg nic using about 18% CAP flavoring. Recently I've been adding 5% distilled water and 3% saline (.9%). So… Is this about right? More DW? More Saline? Less? I am very thankful for all the info I get here and any input (as always) is much appreciated,

But, that's not the point. If your flavoring + water = 26% is working well for you, then it's perfect. If it's not, then adjust.

I cannot see how anyone can give you advise on going up or down if you don't state the problems you're having with your current mixes.

Just who the heck is "Kurt"? And what does his thumb have to do with his rules? (after reading one of Hoosier's posts somewhere when we first joined, neither of us can say or think "rule of thumb" without imagining a thumb with a crown & scepter).

Fwiw, we dilute our VG by 20% before adding flavors (20% dilution = 13.5% dw; 4.5% saline (.9% solution); 2% pga)...and it's still thicker than straight PG.

Like Hoosier says...do what works for you, and that'll be perfect.

Hey Jim, I've heard the 20% but I find that's way too much for me. I guess I like the vg and my tanks are wicked for it. I only use 3-5% DW in 100% vg, sometimes I include 1-2% saline in that 3-5%. My flavoring is between 3-6% . Regardless I like the performance of the thicker juice. But that's just me.. I find it to be richer; and obviously not watered down.

18% flavor in 50/50 not sure why you would need to add dw at all, I would think 1% saline would be enough. Unless your trying to achieve something with the saline.

This isn't a right or wrong answer, just what I do.

I recently got some vg from wizard labs and was very disappointed that it was watered down quite a bit. Looks like 10%

Different setups also require different viscosities of the liquid. I've had a certain percentage of dw work flawlessly in one tank while it wouldn't wick in another. Just play around with it and see what works best with the tank/carto or whatever it is you're using.

I add just enough saline so it wicks properly. It's trial and error. I look for a mix to wick properly and have a certain wetness that's kind on my throat. The proper amount is what works for you and the hardware your vaping with.

Thanks for the replies folks. I'm using a KFL and wicking does not seem to be an issue. I'm adding the saline to try and make the flavor "better" and the DW to try to "moisten" the feel of the juice. I'll take all this input and try some different ratios. Thanks again folks

I'm not so sure that will help in flavor enhancement. I use a kayfun and use saline to help wetness and mellow the throat irriatation that a long day of vaping causes. Some say the added salt helps flavor but myself I've never noticed any flavor enhancement with the extra salt or DW. If your looking to enhance flavor have a read through this thread. There's a lot of conflicting information there so you'll need to try what makes sense to you.

For me increasing vg will add moisture. Also at 100vg I have no dehydration issues at all. No need to drink lots of water. Essentially - Vg is hydrating / pg is dehydrating

I just made mine with kosher salt and dw (1/2 teaspoon/half cup - make sure there are no additives in the salt)

1/2 tsp salt ~3 grams. 1/2 cup water ~118 ml (118 grams). 3/118*100 = 2.5% saline.
For .9% saline solution in 1/2 cup water you need 1.062 grams of salt or ~1/6 of a teaspoon. 1.062/118*100 = .9% saline.
1/4 tsp salt in 3/4 cup of water is close @.86% saline. A touch under 3/4 cup of water to 1/4 tsp of salt should be close enough.

Nothing wrong with 2.5%, you just have to keep that in mind when following recipes. Most recipes use the .9% saline.

Your dilution sounds about right. I've done up to 12 percent dilution and even that seemed to soupy for me. My favorite right now is 8 percent.

Thanks for the post about the KFL though. Good to know it wicks right.

What ohms are you running and have you drilled out the air hole or are you running it stock?
