So I recently got a couple weeks ago, the newer model of the Herakles tank, but reviewing the paperwork that came with it (maybe I missed it, but I doubt it) it doesn't say anything about what kind of wire the coils are made of.

I was trying to use the temperature control on my smok XCube II and what happens is I'll be be able to take one puff at about 250 degrees, then it switches right back to wattage mode mid-puff.

I'm using the .4 resistance coil that came with the tank, and it's still running strong after three weeks with no burnt taste. So far really impressed with the performance, but not really sure why this keeps happening, and my guess is it's something to do with the composition of the metal in the coil.

Any other ideas? Thanks :)

I'm not quite sure about the wires that were provided to you nor that I have any knowledge regarding the temperature control (TC) of the Smok XCube II gear nor the tank system you are using. The only wires coils use for TC are made of Titanium or Nickel because their resistance change proportionally with temperature. I doubt that your coils are made of these TC specific materials. The TC modes are not directly regulated by the temperature itself but by the resistance change while the temperature increase when electrical power goes through the coil. Your XCube may have Nickel (Ni) TC control option only or both Nickel and Titanium (Ti) setting.

My speculation is that your coils are made of Kanthal, which work with wattage mode but not with TC mode, which explains the shift to wattage that you are experiencing when you try to run the TC mode with these coils.

Depending of the tank system you are using, I see 2 options to use the TC mode:

1- Buy Ni or Ti factory coils that fit your tank system
2- Use Ti or Ni wires to build your own TC coils with a RBA ( ReBuildable Atomizer) tank system (educate yourself about safety issues and appropriate procedures if you do so... nothing very concerning but be aware of the basics specifics available here on ECF)

I'm expecting you to have more TC specific feedback from the good and experienced folks around here.

As for myself, I build Ti coils on a Kayfun plus Mini V2 tank with eVic-VTC system that provides both Ni and Ti TC mode control. I'm very pleased with my setting, but you may just need specific workout to get your system working in TC mode. I'm hoping that you'll get appropriate feedback, but in the mean time I am guessing that you can vape safely on the wattage mode with the coils you have in hand. Best to you!
