Hello fellow vapors,
I've been lurking around the forums for a while, but finally decided to join in!

I smoked for 15 years; abobut 10 years consistent, and off and on for the latter 5 ("quit" several times, sometimes a few weeks, sometimes a few months, but always started back up again). I tried different e-cigs a few times, starting with some cheap chinese 3 piece cig-a-like that worked good at first but didn't last very long. Then I went back to smoking, eventually trying the "blu-cig", which again worked very good at first, but just didn't cut it after a while. Went back to smoking, eventually trying herbal cigarettes (honeyrose brand, non-nicotine/non-tobacco) as a somewhat healthier alternative; They tasted good and satisfied the oral fixation aspect of the smoking habbit, but the lack of nicotine always left me craving a real cigarette.

I eventually did quit smoking [regular] cigarettes completely about 3 years ago after a friend at work introduced me to snus pouch tobacco. I tried it out and liked it. On a daily basis it easily replaced smoking for me as it satisfied both the oral fixation and nicotine addiction; the only time I really wanted to smoke was at social settings around other smokers, but I dealt with that craving by taking a pack of herbal cigs with me when I went out (didn't always need them, but I always had them "just in case", so i would not smoke a regular tobacco cigarette). At first a 15-pouch tin would last me a few days, but as time went on I was going through about 20-25 pouches per day. The tins originally sold for about $4 each, which I could deal with, then the state of Tax-achusetts implemented a crazy tobacco tax increase which brought the price up to $9 per tin overnight! It was now costing me $90+ per week to snus! This was just too much...

I started looking into e-cigs again to see if they had gotten any better from my past [bad] experiences with them. I did some googling, and started seeing all kinds of great stuff; mods, cartos, tanks, clearos, rebuildables, etc. and couldn't believe how much the industry has expanded in recent years. I bought an Ego-T/Vivi-Nova starter set on eBay; I filled the nova up with some old Johnson Creek "Tundra" e-liquid that I had sitting around and was very impressed with the vape quality compared to what I had tried in the past. I didn't use the Ego for very long but it was a good starting point for me.

Long story short; About a month in and I already have 3 mods, 10 batteries, 11 clearos, 2 gennys, 2 drip attys, and 2 tank cartos... with more goodies on the way! I am as addicted to hobbies as I was to smoking, so getting into this new hobby was unavoidable for me. Being an avid do-it-yourselfer, anything I buy has to be rebuildable (whether inteneded or not). I am also making my own e-liquid as well (and now have quite a collection of flavor concentrates to boot!)

I have gained some good experience so far and look forward to contributing to the forums!

Welcome to ECF!!!

Think of the devices that didn't work for you as stepping stones to what do.

I do indeed think of them that way; and I never put someone else down for using them. They are a good product for what they are, and it's a great way to find a real alternative to smoking. It's like the Mr. Beer kits, it makes barely drinkable beer, but it still introduces you to the hobby and teaches you how easy it is to brew extract beer (with the right equipment) ;)

Almost all of us started out with a cig-a-like product, either because that's all we knew existed or because the form factor was closest to our comfort zone. Whatever the reason we start there, it is a stepping stone for most of us, and although it alone didn't allow me to quit smoking, it introduced me to a world that I am very happy to be a part of, and I don't regret that experience it at all. :toast:

FuFa, congrats on being tobacco free. Like many, e-cigs were not my first rodeo in trying to be both smoke and tobacco free. Had a number of quits...some longer than others, some shorter than others. I am grateful that I didn't quit on quitting. Each time was a learning experience (especially learning about frustration). Seems that most of our journeys have some common themes, while at the same time our journeys have been our own. Vaping has been fantastic for me and I am still a newbie at 46 days.

ECF and and the people here have been supportive, non-judgemental and have a wealth of experience. Because vaping is such an individual experience and we have individual tastes, it's been cool to see people's opinions voiced and differences respected. It makes both vaping and being in ECF a ton of fun. Namaste !
