Hi, fellow vapers from Italy reporting here. I take advantage of my first thread to expose you my problem. Some weeks ago, after a brilliant first experince with an Aspire nautilus, I bought myself a kayfun Lite Plus.
But... from the first regeneration I found a strange metallic taste in the exhale. I tried everything:

changed the coil
changed the type of coil (micro and spaced)
japanese cotton
fiber freaks
different kanthal gauge (24 and 28)
boiled it after had completely dismounted it
cleaned every inch with a toothbrush
ultrasonic washing
different liquid

Sometimes the problem seems to be solved, but then, sooner or later it comes back...
It's obvius that at this time that I can't see the real cause of the problem.

This is my latest build:

Kanthal 0.32
2.0 ID
1.15ohm
Fiber Freaks density n*2
Vaped from 7 to 12 watt the taste is always there...

hi and welcome from belgium

i don't have a Kayfun but unless the tank itself gives metal taste that shouldnt matter to much ;p

going by your description and the pictures (notice the darker cotton color in the center of the coil) mainly the "but then, sooner or later it comes back"
i think you are using to much cotton, if the cotton in the coil is to dense (and it swells up wet) it will not transport the liquid fast enough, allowing the center of your coil to slightly dry burn (maybe not everytime) but once the taste is there it usually stays
normally the gunk buildup on the coil is better devided over the entire coil

that much wicking is normally only done with rayon (dousnt swell an can be packed tighter)

there are other things, but you said you cleaned everithing (wires 2?) dryburning isn't really needed on spaced coils (i do do it with kanthal) might show a hotleg but i wouldnt say that on the pics
maybe your taste buds are going off (dous the other tank still taste the same?)
maybe you have bad wire?

maybe the kayfun is a special case or i'm missing the obvious

others to the rescue ;p

Hi, Maybe it is juice you are using? I own about 18 Kayfuns and more or less all of the different types. Over the course using them all the time i have found that for some reason some juices do just what you are talking about. Once I changed the juice that metal taste on the exhale will be gone. What type of juice are you using? I clean mine with Vodka! Just make sure wash the coil with water before you dry fire it to get the gunk off. Keep the wick away from the fluid cuts on the lower deck.

Hi and welcome. It's been a long time since I built a Kayfun, but I'd be using 28 or 30 ga wire, and wicking rayon, not cotton. You might try using less cotton in the coil; cotton swells and will "choke" where it goes through. The eventual need to rewick is common in all tanks as well. When you say "eventually," it might just be time for a new wick.
