Hello everyone! New to the forum, and was hoping to get some information regarding some questions on my current setup.

I'm currently using a brand new smok Alien along with the smok Baby Beast, .15 ohm V8 coils. I'm using it at 50 watts currently, but I'm noticing that this coil is reading at .168 ohms, and is getting rather hot after 4-5 draws. Would any of this be room for concern?

Thanks

Welcome to ecf. Your questions also brings up the need to have backup mods and supplies. Using one mod and chain vaping is very hard on the equipment so having a 2nd or even a 3rd mod is ever so helpful. I am not trying to get you to spend $ you don't have, I just want to point out that using 1 mod that way will cause failure much quicker. You must realise that vaping is not smoking and the equipment has limitations that smoking does not. So, if you chain vape(as I do) do yourself a favor and get a couple more mods. This also helps to eliminate the sad fact that if this one does fail and you have no back up, the temptation to grab a pack of smokes can be overwhelming.

Just my 2 pennies.

Agree 100% and did from day one stopping smoking starting vaping 44 days ago. Bought a Smok Stick V8 local vape shop and that evening ordered a backup V8 onlie. Week later decided wanted power control so ordered a Smok GX2/4. When it arrived loved it and next day ordered a backup. When the backup landed decided best to have a backup for the backup and ordered a 3rd GX2/4. All different colors of course. My V8s aren't around for backup since passed them on 2 a friend who's 10 days behind me off cigarettes hence my excuse/reason for 3 GX2/4s.:D

I've settled on the T8 coil so of course have 35 spares. Also a 4th Big Baby Beast atty. Not full DIY juicing but custom blending multiple different tabacco juices together and blending down with 100% PG to 30% VG keeping to 3mg nic. (chest reaction to high VG) Currently have enough for about 2L juice this method will highly likely go full DIY juice soon. Oh and 4x LG HE4 batts, 4x LG HG2 batts with 4 more HG2s on the way. And 2 battery chargers Xtar VC4 and added the OPUS BT-C3100 which I love for it's added capabilities.

No way going back to stinkies!!! 48 years was more than long enough.

Welcome and glad you joined.
Higher ohm coils and less watts will cool the vape down, hang in there.

Well, it sounds like you really like your equipment... That's half the battle right there. I think getting those backups was smart. You may find you want to branch out, modwise and tankwise, but it's not *necessary*. As far as your vape getting warm, a sub-ohm device with higher watts is going to do that. As long as you're not getting spitback or drops of overheated vape on your tongue, you ought to be okay. And, when you get ready to make your own coils (if you want to) someone was mentioning on another thread that a smoke tank came with an RBA for building your own coils, though personally I am going to start with something simpler, I think.

I bought a backup mod I thought I would like... for in my purse... Now it sits next to me and I get to alternate flavors... It is rarely in my purse.... I don't mind :) So yes, if you are chainvaping (I know I did that a lot starting out, or in the a.m.) it is good to have another mod set up and ready to go, that should reduce overheating of just one tank. I'd think that using 2 regularly but not pushing them to the limit should make the gear more durable, but it's just a thought, I certainly don't know that for sure.... But I like a cool vape, anyway.

Hope things continue to go well, congrats on ending a 45 year smoking career! Never thought I'd say this myself, but vaping is SO MUCH better! :)
