Has vaping ruined my taste buds?

I doubt it.... First let me say I vape and smoke both......long story I've been vaping for a little over two years. Started out per ususal vaping crap juice on crap gear.My taste buds have always led me on my vaping journey. In the begining after trying to make chinese garbage attys and cartos work I quickly moved onto gennys and ss mesh wicks....vaped like that for about 5 months, and then started vaping on porous ceramic wicks.....I had found my home with ceramics.I've been vaping on ceramics for about 1 1/2 years it gives the cleanest purest flavor.Though an expensive pain in the ... sometimes.

Also in the begining i vaped standard juice mixes 70pg 30vg after 6or7 months I wasn't feeling well, so I dropped my mix to a 50/50 mix things got better...after about 8or 9 months I was feeling lethargic, body ache, restricted throat, all around crappy so I started vaping 100% v.g things got alot better.

Presently after a month of 100% v.g. , and once again vaping on ss mesh wicks. I am having an unusual experince.....all my juice taste like crap...a sort of bitter, acidic, peppery like taste sometimes it can be very, very pronounced. I am starting to think it may be nicotine,I had a stray bottle of 6mg juice and it is not quite so bitter, also I get a similar taste from analogs which I am starting to really loathe because of the flavor.

i have read some people find 100% v.g. juice can be hit or miss depending on the vegtable source of the v.g. so some companies juices are fine while other companies juices are crap, because of what plant the v.g. was derived from.....I don't know if it's the V.G. the nicotine, or just a phase.....anyone have similar experinces ?????

My nic base has become a bit more harsh and peppery tasting to me lately. I don't always vape nic and when I do it's not much, about 4 mg, but i really notice that flavor. I started noticing it a lot more this year after vaping exclusively since April 2012, so almost the same time frame as you. Since I've used so little nic for the last year and a half I'm still on the same small bottle of nic base I was using a year ago.

I attribute the change in flavor to my taste changing and becoming more sensitive to my nic. I make my own juices and my recipes have evolved form 70%PG to 90% VG and now back down to 60% VG. I don't feel the peppery flavor comes from PG of VG, I'm convinced it's the nic.

I've read that people find some nic base much less peppery. I've not bothered to try any other nic base because I've grown used to it and kind of like it now. Besides, I have another 120 ml bottle of that nic base in the freezer and as long as I appreciate it it's part of my vapocalipse stash ;)

I'm seriously wondering if the quality of nic base hasn't gone down as # of vapers has increased. Food for thought.
Also seriously worried that BT will have a lock on the market due to this, regardless of FDA regs...they (BT) control a lot of the tobacco crop.

That is a good observation. Vaping has sprung up so much in the last 18 month that I have been paying attention to it. There must be an increase in the demand for nicotine concentrate base. I don't know what to think about that?

I've been vaping for about 12 weeks, vape 0mg and 6mg juices and whatever I tried the last couple of days had a gawd awful smell and taste. So I tried some straight VG this morning - the terrible taste and smell came from that to!

I have no idea how to describe the taste and smell except it is awful, pungent, and permeates from each of my tanks and RDAs. It started two days ago and initially I thought it might be a new battery or VV mod I was using, maybe like some burning plastic, rubber, silicone, it was not. I had all my RDAs with different flavors and smell permeates from each, so I pulled the cotton and cleaned all of them yesterday. I've tried mechs, my SVD, tanks, and the RDAs - changed wicks, cotton brands, kanthal brands, all to no avail.

Since the straight VG didn't resolve the issue I loaded some of the strongest flavored juice I have, goodlife Black Fairy - and it seems that I can vape that. I hope whatever this olfactory abnormality is goes away pretty quickly. I would definitely like to know what caused this.

I have noticed my nic base has gotten more peppery tasting as it ages. Fresher nic has less taste.

You hit crises point 3. It is generally noted that there are 3 crises points in making the switch.
3 days
3 weeks
3 months
All 3 seem to coincide with when various chemicals from cigs leave our system.

You are going to find that your tastes and smells will change a ton over time and you will likely be on the nonending quest to find a juice that works for you everytime things change.

I am 15 months smoke free now and just hit another change in tastes. It is aggravating and frustrating but in the end worth it to go back on the hunt for a juice. Fortunately I mostly DIY so for me sometimes I can tweak an old recipe to make it work again.

I understand your points and interesting crises points, I hope there are not more!!! I've been on that never ending quest to find all day vapable juices that work for me since Day 5!

Sitting in front of me are 24 flavors from 14 manufactures, of which 22 not only will not work for me as they all have the same gawd awful taste including the straight VG!

DIY is on my list of Things to Do and I just received everything I need to start. But as long as this awful smell/taste is associated with VG is with me I'm not sure whether to start or not.

For now it seems as if my quest for everyday vapable flavors are limited to two.

I gotta say that I have tried several 100% vg juices, and at the risk of incuring wrath I have to say that virgin vapers makes some horrible juice..it has to do with the VG they use it's god awful, and alot of people have told me they have had the same experince...also velvet clouds or velvet vapers this company from S.F. I cannot stand their juice and I think it has to do with how my taste buds precieve their base liquid. The horrible taste your experincing could be the VG base.Other people love those juices.

Equality 7-2521...i really wanted to like virgin vapor but i really didn't care for it. boba's bounty and gorilla juice are vg works of art. the all day vape saves a lot of searching for the ADV. but i did break down twice with castle long and castle long reserve. incredible flavor but can't afford it but maybe 2-3 times a year. i know so many here that wouldn't drop $27 or $37 for e liquid and i don't blame them or DIY'ers. but i wish that down the line they pick up castle long or go to a B&M for a taste. it's an incredible flavor.

Yeah I love 5 pawns, but I believe I've developed an allergy to PG or I'd stll be vaping 5 pawns....Boba's has a well earned following among vapers, i really enjoy it... I can't say the same for all of AV's juices, but it is a dark juice and tends to foul gear up quicker.
