I just started using the freakshow mini recently and it's a great little atomizer. I have it in single coil and it's a very relaxed vape. I will say that building on it requires you place the coil halfway over the airflow and with the wick tails behind the airflow to allow for a smooth vape. I prefer to have the negative lead come off the top of the coil and the positive lead come off the bottom. Doing that enables you to fit the wick tail down the well near the negative post you used.

Here's a few pics demonstrating what I mean. Coil halfway over airflow, wick tails tucked behind airflow and they barely reach the bottom of the well.

What are the specs on that build so I can try it out? I'm dead set on mastering a single coil before I jump into dual. I know viper has given the dual coil high praise in the freakshow mini , but call me OCD, I just can't bring myself to do until I master just a single coil ya know.

I'm going to try a new build tonight right when I get home but use even less wick and see how that works. I thought I was pretty light on the wick to begin with (almost no resistance when pulling cotton back and fourth through the coil) but I will go even less and see how that manages.

@VictorViper that last build you put up looks delicious. And yes, Castle Long is god like. Castle Long and Gambit are two of my favorite eliquids period.

Don't go too thin in the coil. It should still have enough in there to expand (light resistance is ok). I've got it going with just enough to barely hit the well, like Matty's.

That coil is twisted 26ga., BTW. It's a little much for my tastes (I had been aiming for a twisted sleeper but realized too late I had picked the wrong gauge). Fires up fast, but also stays hot a long time.

You're absolutely right about perfecting the single coil before doing the double. Always start simple.

I used 24 gauge wrapped around a 7/64 bit with 8 wraps. It came out to about 0.7ohms. When you wrap your coil you want to have the legs straight off the coil. I like to take a pair of pliers and "crimp" across both legs right off the coil. This kind of makes its easier to mount it. I mount it very close to the posts, once secured I pull it outward halfway over the airflow using the bit and take flat needle nose pliers to pull the coil in the center, be careful not to mess up the coil.

Don't go thin on the wick either, that's the main culprit for spitting liquid. Keep it nice and snug, but the tails don't have to be long.

So quick update, built another single coil (coil master came in the mail so fast easy coil yaaay!) and it tasted awesome performed awesome. Still .... tons of eliquid/condensation (seems like a mix) in the top cap!

Said ok, maybe its time to build my first dual coil...ever.

dual 7 wraps on 2 mm, ohming out to 4.1. Never ran north of 30 watt, but cranked this up to 32 and holy snap the flavor! Takes a long time to heat up though...

With that said...twice as much eliquid/condensation in the top cap -_-

Heheh, well, at least you can say you've successfully rolled a dually!

I spent two hours twisting all of my remaining wire yesterday (spared some 26ga.). I'm getting the same flavour from a twisted single as I did on a regular double, but with significantly less sputter at the coil.

I'm hardly going to tell you that will fix the issue, but it's a fun little challenge if nothing else. All you need is a pen and some pliers.

So am I being OCD with all the liquid in the top cap?

I mean, it gets pretty messy after a bit and is kinda a ...... I guess I'm not understanding how some people could have dry top caps yet mine are soaked after a few vapes.

Edit:
@MattyTny Thanks for the specs and advice. I'm going to try that build next and def try a little more wick and see where that takes me!

Looking good. Your welcome, happy to help.

I'm assuming you mean 0.41 as well.

What you want to make sure of is that the density of the wick is good and snug inside the coil and the tails can be pretty short since you want to push them behind the airflow step. Less wicking material for the tails will mean you have to drip a little more, but there will be less liquid in the chamber sitting idle.

I want to add one thing. I like using Kohgendo cotton pads for all my RDA's and reserve the rayon for my RTAs. I feel the Kohgendo does a really good job at holding the liquid, even on a small wick. It's also easy to work with and cheap enough to find large quantities online. What wicks do you guys use? I bought a 60 pack of pads from Sephora online.

Very productive thread too, I like hearing the inputs and checking out the builds in this small atty.

Hmm I doubt youre sucking up the juice in the top cap. Thats nothing compared to what my Magma, Derringer or Bonsai build up in the top caps and I dont ever get juice in my mouth. The only attys I have drank juice from were my Derringer and Bonsai because theyre so short theyre literally right there above the center post and if I fill em too much and dont give it time to soak into the wick, I can pull juice out easily. Theyve both got flat top caps like the Freakshow and all 3 are about the same size.

That's a really good point I hadn't considered! Especially if Spizz takes strong draws, that could certainly be it.

That said, you see the pics. That is indeed an awful lot of condensation in there. And the o-rings are trash on this atty, IMO - seems to be the culprit of the seeping issue.

Im probably getting a Mini next so Ill have to watch out for that hehe. I dig my Magma for its flavor but seriously, the airflow holes dont cut it now that Im a full on lung hitter. I pretty much only use my Bonsai now but Id like to have something similar to the Magma in rotation I can really rip on like I do the Bonsai and Derringer, the Freakshow seems like its the way to go. Maybe its just the lighting in here, but the condensation doesnt look that bad, but like I said I dont own a Freakshow yet. My Magma if I pull the top cap off it gets enough in there it starts running out. The Derringer fills up pretty good too, and the Bonsai jeez. If I pull the top cap off to fill it, I HAVE to have a paper towel nearby or it starts running everywhere. I guess I will have to get a Mini now so I can investigate this issue you know um, properly hehe..

I will be sure to try that. I will say though that the juice is all over the side wall and upper part of the top cap on the side where my coil is.

How much juice? A light coating of juice is normal on any RDA, because some of the vaporized liquid condenses onto the side wall and top cap surfaces. It is made even worse if you stop inhaling as soon as you release the fire button -- the coil will still produce a bit of vapor as it cools down.

Heheh, "twisted your arm", eh Mono?

It's a lovely little dripper, great flavour for a wide open atty. Not among my favorites but definitely my cheapest - a great bang-for-buck performer. Also there's a skeleton on it.

Oh, and certainly less important than the skeleton: The kit comes with extra o-rings and hex screws.

If you can figure out what the skeleton is supposed to be doing, I'd love to hear it. My best guess is eating fire. Which is almost as cool as a skeleton, but then you think: "wait, it's a fire eating skeleton, that's actually twice the cool, and will enhance my vape ten fold".

More seriously, watch out for clones, BTW. One would assume a dirt cheap atty like that wouldn't be cloned, but I guess I remain naïve.

Both Freakshows have been cloned which baffles me. Someone in another thread where I mentioned wanting a Cthulhu recommended me a $13 FT knock off as well. I guess China just wants to make all the money they can.. I cant afford say a $200 authentic Kayfun 4 so I buy $20-30 clones of em. Both the Freakshow and the Cthulhu sorry, Ill pay the $30 or so and just get the real deal so I can finally say I own something authentic heh.

Missed this earlier. I've been using a 5-pack of UD cotton. Expensive for what it is (5 sheets) and riddled with seed bits, but it works just fine. Cotton lasts so long I hardly consider it an expense.
