Yes, I wasn't sure how long the atties last, and that would be the main thing that would have to be replaced. You might be able to dry burn and/or soak them to get more life. That would probably be something you would have to do for your dad. (I'm imagining trying to get my FIL to do a dry burn and not seeing that happening, though your dad might be different.)

I wouldnt get someone brand spankin new an eroll. Ive had one, i think they are very nice little devices, but they require effort to keep them working correctly and require constant refilling or carrying around cartos prefilled.

Honestly anyone who is willing to use a larger manually i usually point to an ego with evods, and if they have to have a cigalike i push people to get a Volt kit from Smokeless Image. Both are very simple to deal with for someone new to switching. Cigarettes are very easy to smoke, you take one out and light it, as soon as a device becomes difficult the person will just revert back to whats easy for them

The eroll is expensive and requires a smidgen of a learning curve, which long time smokers notoriously do not possess or even wish to learn. I nominate Smokeless Image's Volts. A pre-filled cartridge. You screw it on. You vape. That's it. If your father wants low maintenance and is happy with a pre-filled catridge, I say Volts all the way.

What volume control said: "Cigarettes are very easy to smoke, you take one out and light it, as soon as a device becomes difficult the person will just revert back to whats easy for them"

I would not get a brand new person an eroll.

Interesting that you guys think it's too much work for the eroll. I think I may just end up getting him both then and let him decide. He'll have backups!

He's actually a big fan of tinkering with stuff. He's an old electronics guy and loves to take stuff apart. I'm a little excited about the fact that maybe way down the road he might get into mods and rebuilding. Maybe he can teach me how to build a decent coil someday.

So, I'm not sure if the work involved in filling it and whatnot will be an issue. He was more concerned over the look of it and flavor. The tank system on the eroll was really what sold me on it. I can't imagine pollyfill cartos having a better taste than that. I had to use some cartos a few months ago for about a week and it was just so meh.

But yes, will try both routes :) Thank you!

Cool, I was thinking of suggesting you get both and let him decide, but that's a lot of $. Anything for those we love though, right?

I was also assuming you'd be around to help him with refilling, but if he's good with fiddly stuff he may catch on quickly. I'm mostly basing me assumptions on people like my parents and my inlaws (only FIL smokes, but they are all a generation older than me). None of these 4 people in my life would be willing to fiddle too. Uh with this sort of thing. My mom doesn't even like to pump her own gas, so I can't imagine her cleaning and filling cartomizers. The remote control is somewhat of a mystery to her, so rebuilding coils would be beyond her comprehension or motivation to figure out. Lol.

You might consider this 510 kit, along with 510T attys and the cartridges, which are about the same as an eroll. They fill the same and a needle tip bottle is soooo useful when filling. Oh, and they're having a sale through today. :)
Joyetech 510 Kit "little box of vapors" CLEARANCE <kit
Smoktech 510-T Atomizer 2.5ohm <attys
Smoktech 510-T Tank Cartridges (5) BLUE <cart tanks

I know that none of the colors are what you wanted, but you can buy all those components separately as well. For me they function almost as well as an eroll, but I like the compact PCC. You can also get PCCs for the 510 batteries, they're a bit chunkier.

I think I'm sold on the eroll. I love the no filler carts and the way the atty works. I'll just get him a few extra batteries. Still watching videos.

One thing though. Are there any safety concerns about these automatic batteries? Turning on when not in use, etc?

my daughter loves the erolls,,,,,,,,,just remind dad that when he's NOT using it, to keep it in the case so he's topping it off,,,,,,,

and to charge the case every day,,,,,,,,,

also, filling the tanks on those is a PITA,,,,,so get him some juice bottles with the needle tips,,,,,much easier to fill with those.

Just thought I'd chime in as a (former) eRoll user...

I was a PAD Camel Filters smoker for 30 years, started on the eRoll after trying Blu disposables. Tinkering is the furthest thing required for this little guy. I quit smoking easily using this exclusively, and honestly I wasn't trying to quit, just cut down. I even chain-vaped with it. The PCC lasted me all day so no worries on the 20 minute battery life. Just make sure that with any kit you buy that it comes with the extra cone (or buy one).

Quite simply for me, it was the easiest transition from smoking to vaping I could imagine. The most irritating thing for me at first was filling the tanks. I tried the needle nose bottle, but I wasn't one to have an ADV so I would have had to have 10 of them to be happy. Only having one was a major PITA when I wanted to switch juices, so I learned how to drip my juice into the tank directly and could fill one in no time with no spillage.

After a couple of months using it exclusively, I was going through 4-6 tanks a day and filling was getting to be a pain (I never did get into pre-filling the tanks and carrying with me in a little tin, I suppose that would have made it easier). At that point I was ready to use the bigger devices and picked up a 1300 mAh Spinner.

Attys needed to be rinsed every few days, I discovered recently how to dry burn the coil but couldn't get the spike on the atty back on.

In the 2 months I used it, I bought a 5-pack of atties twice, and some of my juice was 100% VG so they do last a while.

I was thoroughly pleased with my purchase, and I do use it once in a while when I feel like using a smaller form-factor.

You will likely not regret the purchase.

If you do get the eRoll, order it from Rocky Mountain Vapor. They offer a 10 ml needle tipped bottle and a second atomizer cone with their kit, and if you hunt around there is a coupon code for 20% of which brings the price to about $45.00. They have free shipping too.

The eRoll uses eGo-C atomizers. Depending on the thickness of the liquid used, they can last a long time. I've been dripping on eGo-C atomizers for nearly a year and I generally toss my atties after 2 months of use, but I use an 80/20 clear liquid. The atomizers don't die on me; I just figure 2 months is a good lifespan for a $4 atomizer.

Refilling can be a pain, but I just have extra tanks lying around. I probably have 15 tanks, and they easily last me 2 days or more. Refilling them all takes me about 5 minutes. When I leave the house I carry 2 assembled units and 6 spare tanks, and that easily gets me through a 12 hour work day.

I disagree that the eRoll is more difficult than other cig-alikes. I've used the Volt, the Sidesho, j306, a few others. The eRoll is the easiest cig-alike I've tried. You don't have to take it apart to change tanks. You don't have to take it apart to charge it. You don't have to worry about overfilling a cartomizer and blowing out the center hole, or flooding a Nano. You don't have to worry about leaking issues. It even tells you in the manual how to avoid leaking.

I've had the eRoll for a month now and it is my daily driver. I barely touch my other devices anymore. The thing works flawlessly, for me.

And if you do get a traditional cig-alike, go with V4l, Volt, Bloog or Halo. Nothing in the 510 world can compete with a quality 808 in the cig-alike market.

Good luck.

Hey,

Noticed you're in NC.. you might look at Carolina E Cigs
Two stores in the Charlotte area and a website. I go to the southern store quite a bit.
I'm old.. I want to pick it up and look at it before I buy it.

My sister smokes Capri.. a pretty strong menthol cigarette.. but really did not want a large device. So I got her a few of the V2's because they look like a cigarette. I got a few for myself too since this is the Carolina's and I really don't want to be pulled over for sucking on my ego with that shiny PT3 glittering in the sun. They do have white batteries, and cartomizers.. very passable.

She's liking them a lot.. I don't know how long they will last, but they look and feel solid enough and work very well. Also got her an ego kit like mine and she uses it at her desk. But she only carries the V2 when she goes out.

This stuff is all pretty inexpensive and I am systematically working my way through my family and neighbors.. I just tell them.. I'll buy it if you will quit smoking.. then after you quit.. buy your own stuff.

If you're afraid refilling will cause him to give up, but disposable cost is prohibitive, then maybe try these. $4 a piece:

Buy Electronic Cigarettes | Disposable & Rechargeable | White Cloud

I haven't tried any of the tobacco flavors, but it may be worth checking out. The vanilla and fruit flavors I have tried are very good. And if he finds a flavor he likes, then they do have rechargeables that you can buy pre-filled cartridges for in his favorite flavor.

We found a brand new, sealed, eroll kit on eBay for around $30 (seller still has quite a few in fact). Should be here Wed! I showed my dad some reviews on it and although I'm sure he doesn't understand most of the terminology, he got the basic idea of how it worked and the minor drawbacks.

If he likes it I'll get him all the extra attys, tanks, batteries.. Maybe an extra kit.

I have some indigo samplers for him already from my sampler stash, but have a list ready from Johnson Creek, Halo and a few others. I was a little surprised to see all of the gourmet tobacco vendors reaching pluid prices.

Here are some rechargeable 510 auto batteries.

Joye 510 Auto Switch Battery

From the same store here are some super tiny clearomizers that he might find easier to fill than soaking up a cartomizer (though honestly a cartomizer will work best for him)

Vision 510 Nano Clearomizer

I can't really help you on the tobacco liquids, I make my own... I will say I've tasted the Greensmoke Red flavor and it was quite like a cigarette. Greensmoke might be a good solution to start him off on, but the batteries aren't 510 and if he decides to want to try something from there he'll have to ditch the Greensmoke format.

The Blu rechargeable are garbage. They perform NOTHING like the Blu disposables.

I ordered the Greensmokes (I am maybe close to the age of your dad) for my first try at e-cigs after trying an NJoy to see how it worked, and found that the Greensmokes worked fine for me. They look like a regular cig with a filter. And are kind of no muss, no fuss. Charge 'em up and go. I started with their Red Tobacco, which I'm betting might be closer to Phillip Morris/Marlboro. I was a Virginia Slim girl and found I liked the Gold better. Batteries come in long an short, kinda like cigarettes. Wasn't terribly expensive and free shipping/free returns. If your dad hates it, he can send it back for a refund--that was the "hook" for me.
