After several days living with my new istick 40W from cvapor.com I think it's time for a review

Many of you are already familiar with its techs, but for the others:

1-40Woutput, works with 0.05-1.00ohs (TC) 0.15-3.5ohm (VW) coils

100-315oC/200-600oF (ΤC mode)

Built in 2600mah battery

Colors:Black, silver, grey, blue

Dim: 36.2X22.3X77.3 mm

Self adjusted ss 510 pin

Its SN is engraved at its upper part, next to the nicklace slot, while at its bottom part there are the usb charging port and the CE symbol

Comparing to the istick 30W, their external differences are:

The istick has a round fire button, it is slightly wider, its buttons are placed opposite the atty connection, not under it. Finally, the 40’s oled screen isn’t as bright as the 30’s.

Functions:

Fire button: 5 quick clicks to activate and deactivate the mod

Fire+ < Press and hold for stealth mode in and out

When activated, Press and hold <+> to lock the buttons

When deactivated, Press and hold <+> to switch the screen for right or left handed users

< or > to increase/decrease watts and temperature

Fire + >: Press and hold to lock/unlock the atty.

Protections:

Short circuit, 10sec cut off, high mod temperature, low battery, high atty temperature.

Vaping with the istick 40

I tested the istick with an Eviva Atmistique RTA and a Kayfun Lite+.
Comparing to the dna40 it’s far more simpler and easier to use. It takes only one click to do anything, while at dna40, even for increasing the temperature 5 degrees you have to lock (5 clicks) press and hold 2 buttons, press the +, press the fire and unlock with 5 clicks. With the istick you simply press one time the > button to increase the temperature one step.

With one click you can set anything: switch mode, + or – watts, temperature, lock-unlock the atty or the mod etc.

But please notice that using the istick 40, one cannot set a maximum wattage while working in tc mode. This function is available at dna40 chip based mods, where you can set e.g. the temperature to 450oF and also set the watts to 20, thus forbidding the mod to cross the 20w limit, even if that means that the temperature never reaches 450oF. Istick’s watts when in tc mode has a standard upper limit of 40W.

Well, how about the chip? Is it any good? A little parenthesis here: Eleaf’s policy to use built in LiPo batteries is now tested. The istick40 is a powerfull and battery-stressful mod when vaping at 40W with a 0.2 coil or when vaping at 550oF with a 0.1 coil. Is this policy right at istick40?

Should a vaper change the internal battery with an LG HG2 or similar, if they plan to use it for serious subohm vaping? I’d rather suggest it, although I don’t have the sheets to prove it. I can only notice that the battery lasts quite longer when used in 12W than when used in 220oC.

So… speaking about the chip… it was a pleasant surprise that it performs extremely well in tc mode comparing to its price and doesn’t give you headaches if your other mod is a dna40.

I tried to switch the same atty between the istick and a dna40 as many times as I could.

The dna40 chip is better but not that better. The istick’s ohm reading wasn’t always accurate but 90% was. You need to set it a 10% more degrees and 0.2-0.3 watt to perform the same.

I tested the two mods twice each with a new dry coil. I fired and the results were:

Istick: yellow both times, dna: 1 time white, 2nd time light brown.

When the tank is empty, both mods decrease the power to the minimum

Problems

Sometimes, the atty seams to get weak current and the temperature protection signs appears. Just take out the atty and screw it again. As the coil gets old, you need to increase the temperature to continue vaping the same. With the dna I increase about 10-15%, with the istick I increase the temperature up to 20%. I noticed no problems working with the atty unlocked.

Finally… to buy or not to buy.

It’s a mod you’ll never cry for the money you paid for it. Very small and convenient. Its chip is generic but performs well. In VW mode it's even more powerfull then the istick30. When vaping with a dual coil subomh, you’ll never feel the mod failing while inhaling. I thought that as a VW it’ll be a good one, but in tc mode it’ll perform poorly, but the mod is very decent. With a killer design and an overkill price. Even as a back up mod, it’s a very smart buy, unless you need a two battery over 50w mod.

Yes, it's perfect. Having already 3 working mods and 2 on the way, I had to give one of them. surprise..surprise, it was the dna40. I prefered istick's size and convenience than evolv's chip superiority.
Next thing I'll do, I'm gonna change the li-po batteries of my isticks (30-40) with li-ion 18650 LG HG2 3000mah 20A

I'm posting this here as I should but plan to ask the same question in the general forum. Has anyone had smaller than claimed batteries in their istick 40? I should have life for at least all day with this and it's barely getting me to dinner. 8 hours or 10 of work and a little vaping and it's out of power. My old istick 30 has a 2200 mah battery and it lasts all day til bed. Anyone having the same problems?

I'm very pleased with the battery life, love this thing!

I use 18650's in 4 different mods and always have to change/charge bats sometime in during the day. Mostly working from home, I'm a heavy vaper using low nic and DIY juice.
I misplaced my IPV mini2 70W (at my home) and got tired of looking for it. Everything has its place... searching for somthing misplaced drives me crazy! I ordered 3 mods from MyFreedomSmokes and got it in 3 days, impressive!

MyFreedomSmokes shipments have always been quick, love this store. Their customer service has also been excellent, they have backed up their products going above beyond for me.
The istick TC40w almost didn't make it in my cart because of the built in battery. I'm not a fan of built-ins, don't want to carry a cord or patience to wait for a charge. However with its awesome compact size, pretty blue color, crazy cheap price and good reviews, I couldn't resist.

The ipvD2 75w is a nice little mod too. They are putting out new box mods so fast it's hard to keep up with the latest and greatest! It's nice that they are making them smaller. I was pleased when I found my ipv mini2 70, only to have back the Lemo 2 tank on top. The ipv mini2 70w is so big and heavy in comparison, it's sat on my mod try since recovered.

Box mods are new to me as of this year but I've got 7 (name brands) and this little istick TC 40w is by far my favorite. It was a little tricky and took some time to fiqure out the temp control, but that's with most things in life worth having!

Thank you for the informative review petra.

so to resurrect this thread, here is a heads up from @Nick N about a little easter egg in the TC40 firmware.

So it turns out if you turn off the device and then hold the Fire and Up buttons down for around 20 secs, you can make a Ti mode available. Turn back on and hit middle control button and it now goes from Ni-Ti-power!!!

Just set it up on mine and it works, and the Ti mode itself works pretty well. A littgle underpowered but then so is the Ni mode.

    hey now, That's Cool !

    so ; off / hold ▲+fire
then Ti is added to the menu ~W-Ni-Ti~

wife has hers and not here now, but I will try it

although, I use Ti in Ni mode now with no issues
    nice job, thanx

    :)

The question remains, why is this a hidden feature?? What are eleaf thinking on this one?!?!

    My guesses are:
    1. Having a Ni/Ti feature would of pushed the value of the device above the price point they were targeting
    2. eLeaf was saving the feature for a follow on "+" product
    3. The Ti feature was buggy so they decided not to include it
    4. The Ti feature is a surprise to eLeaf as well, their supplier 'dumbed down' a chipset to meet eLeaf's pricing demands
While I don't really care which of the above (or something else) is correct, I'm very happy that I can now use my little TC40 with more builds than before.

I got the Ni/Ti mode. Cool, thanks.

Question: I like a warmer vape (around 500). When I start it seems fine, but slowly it loses it's power and becomes cooler. I find that if I take the tank off and put it back on, I get the 'New Coil Up, Same Down' message. As soon as I hit 'New Coil Up' as if it's a new coil, it seems to fire back up again.

Is there some easier way to do this than removing the tank each time? Or, alternatively, is there some easier way to get the device to ask 'New Coil Up, Same Down'?

the Joye / eLeaf / Wismec Family Tree (easter egg hunt party)

•the Joye eGrip had a hidden upgrade, OLED 20W to 30W

•the Joye VTC held back/hidden upgrade, 60w to 75w (maybe)

•now the eLeaf TC40W hides Ti inside the already menu

WHAT are the people making decisions thinking ?
bet if we were in that meeting, we MIGHT understand...

I'm about to buy a TC60W, wonder what's hidden in there...

    :2c:
so I swiped the wife units handy little TC40
and I have been vaping in Ti all evening...

just pulled the eGo One Mega tank off my evicVT (.5Ω Ti)
screwed it on the TC40, locked the Ω's and had at it...

    it just works Great !
don't really see any difference with Ni, Ti modes - it just works good
both devices (VT & TC40) perform about the same for me...

same tank to each device, 350°- 400°

so for me the only thing better between the two is the 5000mah
appx 6 hrs, and used a little more than ½ of the 4ml mega tank (2.5ml ?)
battery started at 90% full, now maybe 75%

guess I coulda saved some money
