Greetings all!

I am pretty new to vaping outside of Blu brand e-cigs and am looking for some good brand recommendations to avoid problem posted in thread title.
From what I have read, and deduced from said reading, I gather that the higher VG content is what is burning my throat. Would this be a correct assumption?

I at first thought it could be a weak battery needing re-charging but have since ruled that out as even with a freshly charged battery I go back to a particular juice and it still causes the problem, which is a shame because I love the flavor otherwise.

If my assumption is correct, would any of you have brand recommendations to get higher PG to VG ratio (as many sites do not list the exact %s used in their liquids).

If it helps, I am currently looking for these particular flavors (that don't burn the throat): Strawberry Lemonade and Chai Latte.

Welcome aboard
Burning throat could be caused by several things:
The type tank you are using, top coil or bottom coil. Top coil tanks are more prone to creating a hot vape.
A flooding tank can cause this. Think of a car engine that is flooding (black smoke, noxious smell).
Turning your VV/VW battery up too high
IME, VG offers less throat irritation (throat hit) than PG

Please describe your setup (tank/battery/juice) and whether this something that has just started or has been an issue all along.

Current setup (until mod gets delivered, that is :) ) is as follows:

eGo-T 650mAh (non-vv) batteries (starter kit had 2 batteries, 2 clearomizers w/ top wick heads, charger and extra 10ml bottle)

With this setup, the problem only occurred with the store brand juices I got on initial purchase, and a couple of other juices I bought separately.

I then purchased an Aspire ET-S tank which utilizes BVC replacement heads (haven't yet changed out included 2ohm head for replacement 1.8ohm ones) and again, the problem only persists when using the juices I had problems with initially. I have found a few other juices that do not cause this problem regardless of whether I use the original eGo clearomizers or the Aspire ET-S, so that is why I suspect the juice itself.

Apparently I was backwards on my assumption though regarding PG versus VG if what you guys are stating is correct. (I though higher VG was the issue rather than higher PG) So perhaps trying to find a 70/30 VG/PG mix is in order?

Well, we have the same problem. PG irritates my throat really bad, to the point it hurts. I started ordering from MtBaker because they offered max VG juice. My problem went away after that. PG bothers a lot of people. You have a decent set-up to start with and if it works for you then your good to go. Just try some max VG and I think you will be fine

Thanks for the quick responses, I kinda figured the % mixture was the issue.

I just got through ordering a sample pack of new flavors (5 x 3ml bottles) through Parkes Vaping (Monster, Chai Tea, Strawberry Lemonade, Cinnamon Roll, and Cookie Dough) for $8 plus shipping so we will see how it goes.
The thing I love the most from this site, other than a large amount of flavors, is the fact that you can choose your own PG/VG mixture. That, plus it is only 2 states away so I should get my order pretty quickly.

@Cloudd: I allowed for plenty of time for the wicks to absorb the juice before initial vaping on all accounts (5 minutes to be safe at first)

@EBates: I hadn't considered that reasoning for the extra flavor shot, thanks for the heads-up. :toast:

If what you are vaping is a max VG in a top coil or even in BVC's you may need to thin the liquid with a little distilled water or .9 saline solution to get it to wick properly. There are many variables. Even among 2 competing 80% VG liquids you can see differences in viscosity. I would try the liquid in question with 1-3 drops of distilled water in the tank and see if this helps or not. And with a heavy VG liquid 5 minutes is not really enough time on the initial tank fill.

Very few people are allergic to PG and even fewer to VG so the likelihood of it being an allergy are pretty low. Not impossible but still pretty low. About 3 weeks in I thought I might be PG sensitive. Nope just a burnt BVC coil. The quality on these is hit or miss. Right after quitting smoking your body is tripping out a bit, add to that the fact that you are inhaling something very different. There is bound to be some irritation. Heck remember when we first started smoking a marlboro red would tear me up. By the end I would tear the filter off and smoke it no filter.

DIY man, DIY is the way to go. It only tanks a small amount of research to fully understand and it is FULLY customization to get the perfect vape for you.
If you have any questions, feel free to Private Message me.
best of luck.

Thanks for all the info.

I have since called and asked the shop where I made my initial purchase about the % content of their juices (small shop) and was told that they sell nothing but 70PG/30VG currently, but plan to have more variety soon. I do not think I have a PG allergy, but it does irritate my throat something fierce (feels like a "hot" hit).
I only noticed this feeling from those original juices, and a couple of other convenience store bought ones that did not have % markings on the bottles. When using higher VG content juices it does not happen.

I will likely go DIY eventually as I love to experiment (probably when I get my first dripper rig), but I plan to go VV between now and then.
With the new Kanger Aerotank Turbo I just got a few days ago (man this thing is HUGE!) I am now on the search for a VV box mod that will accommodate it without it hanging over the edges. Is anyone aware of any of these on the market other than the God 180 and the Cloupor T6, or are they the only ones yet available?

For the hard throat hit you're experiencing, there are a few variables that might affect it.

Firstly, a higher VG will lead to a stronger throat hit. Perhaps 70g/30vg is still too harsh for you. Try 50/50. Personally that is my sweet PG/VG combination.

Another factor is the amount of nicotine. Higher nicotine tends to give a stronger throat hit. Try from a base of 12mg and adjust accordingly. Get 10ml bottles to experiment, as it is cheaper to "waste" and experiment.

Certain flavours tend to hit harder too. For me i go with Mt Baker Vapour as it is pretty affordable with me, along with Hangsen brand from fast tech. Cheap but good stuff. Good luck!

Found the sweet spot!

The sample pack I got with 70vg/30pg juices (from Parkes Vaping) not only do not burn my throat, but I get monster hits even with my original weak eGo PV. I can't wait to get larger bottles and use them in my new setup (Tesla M2 w/ Kanger Aerotank Turbo). This is with 20mg nicotine as well and is just right to curb my nicotine cravings to boot.

Many thanks to all that have commented with recommendations!
