I've been vaping nearly two years, but recently I'm enjoying RDAs on mech mods over tanks with VW mods. Although, most of my RDAs are on top REOs, but I think this question would be the same whether dripping or squonking. Still using one VW device with Troll topping it (nice RDA!!! ) And still have one Kanger Subtank in rotation on a Smok M50

If I use a single coil @ .40 ohm or two .80 ohm for a total build of .40 ohm... is there a difference? Less vapor in single? Same? Longer battery time with single at same ohm?

I seem to be going thru a lot more juice on the builds with dual coils. But maybe it would be the same if I use single coil built at same ohm ?

Just curious...

Thanks.

Dual coils produce more vapor, but use more power.
Yes, and as I understand, more juice is consumed at higher temperature, can be less detectable flavor depending on other factors.
But maybe it would be the same if I use single coil built at same ohm ?
Less surface area to burn off juice with single coil and less vapor is a resultant. But, less juice consumed. A trade off.
It all comes down what your after and how/what you adjust to achieve it vs how/what your willing to sacrifice to obtain it.

Increased wicking capabilities and air flow leads to a greater rate of evaporation with dual coils.

And really, just more wicking in general. The cotton (or whatever you prefer) used on a dual coil build is (in theory) twice the amount used in a single coil build, thus requiring nearly twice as much juice to achieve saturation.

On to my own anecdotes, I swore by single coils in my Magma for months! If I needed a lower resistance, I always preferred to wrap up a parallel coil rather than messing around with getting two coils to perform the same. I even did a single coil that used twisted 26 gauge in parallel with 2 strands of 26 gauge on the ol' Magma. This required me to open up all of the airflow, because .2ohms is a lot of heat lol. However, I got sick of doing these fancy build to achieve a rating of .2ohms, so I bought a spool of 24 gauge kanthal. From there I did 5 wrap dual micro coils for a couple months! It was challenging at first because I could never get both of them to wick at the same rate, but once I got the hang of it I was set. I soon found that I (personally) got more flavor from dual coils than I ever did with single coils. I've been doing dual coils ever since!
