Dry-Burn Aspire BVC Heads

After 4 days of vaping Grumpy's Hooch (similar to Boba's Bounty) on a BVC head it was still performing well but I decided to try to clean the coil. Here is what worked for me.

Flushed out the coil under running water then let it soak in Everclear (95% alcohol) for several hours.

Dried out the coil in the toaster oven.

Dry-burned the coil starting at 3.2 volts working up to 3.7 volts. There was a lot of smoke, smell and sputtering and I thought I had scorched the filler material.

Soaked the coil again for several hours in Everclear to get rid of the nasty smell from the dry-burn.

Dried out the coil in the toaster oven.

Put the cleaned coil on a full-size nautilus, filled it with a grape/apple juice and it is working just fine. Wicking, flavor and vapor are very good.

So, the answer to the question is YES the BVC heads can be dry-burned without scorching the filler material. Note: This dry-burn was done on a coil that came on my Nautilus Mini. I noticed that the coil that came on the MINI is a little different than the replacement coils I ordered from Sweet-vapes. The replacement coils have a finer mesh screen on top of the packing material inside the coil and the 4 air holes are larger.

I can't guarantee this will work for everyone but it sure worked for me and I could not he happier.

Is dry burning necessary? I have a used bvc coil with about 8 days of use on it with some sweet juice I would like to clean but I am unsure how to go about it. I don't have any ever clear around the house. Suggestions?

Here is an update to my original post in this thread. I cleaned and dry-burned the extra BVC coil that came with my Nautilus Mini. I put the coil in a full size Nautilus and filled it with Custards Last Stand. The first 7 or 8 draws were absolutely horrible and I was about to post the results in this thread and give-up on the whole dry-burning thing. Well, about the 9th or 10th draw ALL of the nasty vape disappeared and everything was back to normal. Wicking, flavor and vapor were what you expect from a well functioning BVC. My guess is that I did not give the coil packing material sufficient time to become fully saturated. I'm still a believer in dry-burning BVC's and will post in this thread if I run into any problems.

Simply fired again and again till I got a nice red glow, then fired a few more times for the hell of it... on my Provari 2.5 @ 5.3V... Loaded it up with Zues Juice, (kind of a sweet pineapple) and primed the system by doing 9-10 hard puffs, by 8 the flavor was coming back by 11 it was normal again.... by normal, I mean like the day I first put the coil in...

Confirmed... you can dry burn these...

Curious as to how were able to see the coil glowing. The ceramic wick is completely warped around the coil and the mesh screen on top of it.
Cam you please elaborate how you were able to see the coil?

While dry-burning, look into the top of the head and you will see a small circle of red/orange which is the top of the coil glowing. The glowing coil is clearly visible thru the mesh screen.

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread but I had a question about cleaning these bvc heads. I soaked mine in vodka(svedka) and now I'm seeing people use ever clear. Will this have any adverse effect? I feel like the flavor is a tad muted.

I posted a thread with my luck first time I dry burned it took a bit to get the burnt taste out. The next time the burnt taste didn't come out even after 50 pulls.

Everclear and vodka should both work fine. Everclear is 95% grain alcohol and vodka is a much lower percentage of alcohol.
If you want to get your coils really clean place them in a small bowl of water and put them in the microwave oven on high for about 3 minutes. The hot water and the bubbling action of the boiling water gets all the gunk out of the coils. Follow this with a quick dunk in Everclear or vodka and the alcohol will displace most of the water from the microwave boiling and make drying-out the coils much faster. Note: It is generally not a good idea to put metal in a microwave oven but I have placed several coils in a small bowl of water and had no sparking in the microwave.

Dry-burning creates a lot of nasty smelling vapor that gets absorbed in the wicking material in the coil. After dry-burning, try cleaning the coil in hot water or better yet alcohol and this should get rid of the burnt taste.

I got a burnt taste as well and I tried rinsing afterwards and didn't have any success. I have some new coils coming in thank God. I will get it another shot but no more dry burning. I appreciate the tip about the microwave I am going to try that.

I am using my back up evod and I hate to say it but it's providing more flavor than my mini nautilus ever did

Left it to dry for a full 1 day and something then dry burned it until the coil was fully glowing red and no smoke was coming of off it. After that, I blew super hard into it so the dry ashy gunk left overs would come out. Filled up the tank and it's rocking hard!

The ceramic filling simply doesn't burn with the amount of heat a coil produces. That's why we are able to do this.

That is what I thought too the first time I dry burnt them. Just when you think you have the bvc figured out bam . Also maybe it's just me but soaking in isopropyl may not be the best thing for your lungs.
