Do you consider yourself 'off of tobacco' and 'tobacco free' now that you vape?

I was having a discussion with a couple folks on another forum about the classification of PVs and what that meant to people who vape. A federal judge ruled that because nicotine is a tobacco derivative, e-cis are a tobacco product.

Some people have the opinion that since they are using nicotine, they are still using tobacco, though not in actual tobacco form, such as cigs, chew, and snuff. I don't share that opinion. I see myself as tobacco free, and totally off of tobacco.

So I'm wondering what others think, and how they see themselves as far as using nicotine goes now that they vape instead of smoke. Obviously I'm not asking those that vape 0mg nicotine this question, as they are obviously not using tobacco or any derivative of it.

So...If you are an ex-smoker, and vape nicotine juice, do you still consider yourself a tobacco user, or are you tobacco free?

I've given it no thought, and really, the question is meaningless to me. I am a nicotine addict, and I have found a better, healthier, more enjoyable way to maintain than smoking. Off tobacco? Irrelevant.

...although, I think when most people say "off tobacco," they mean "not smoking." In that view, I am off tobacco and am certainly an ex-smoker.

Sums it up perfectly for me. I'm still a nicotine addict but I have changed the source to one that is much less harmful.
Right, I get that...but if someone asks you if you use tobacco, what would your answer be?

For me, using tobacco means using an actual form of tobacco be it smoking, chewing, dipping, or using snuff, and I dont use any of those, so I consider myself tobacco free, even though I still use nicotine.

I don't claim to be tobacco free—I err on the side of absorbing responsibility for what I'm doing, as opposed to escaping it by means of tortured reasoning and semantics—and even if I vaped liquid that contained synthetic nicotine, I'd say the same.

I vape tobacco flavors exclusively, and when I do my sense of what occurs within is that my body is fooled into a belief that I'm giving it what it wants—the genuine article—and it rewards me with a dopamine release.

If this is so, it means I'm still psychologically dependent on tobacco.

Someone said to me I have to look at all of these as nicotine delivery systems -- cigarettes deliver nicotine through the lungs via smoke. Chewing tobacco delivers it through the mouth. Nicotine patches - through the skin. I guess when I look at it like that, I understand those that still say they are a tobacco user.

That said, I never said I wasnt dependant on tobacco, just that I no longer use tobacco itself. I realize that may be a contradiction of sorts.

I definitely consider myself tobacco free. And I base that on actual experience of exclusively vaping for over 6 months and then asking to bum a cigarette one day "just to see" how it was. OMG! It was nasty, gross!! I'm definitely NOT into tobacco anymore! I seldom use tobacco flavored ejuice anymore and I've also reduced my nicotine down from 36mg to 20mg so far and still going further. Someday I may be nicotine free or I may stay around 10-15mg not sure yet.
