Do all e-cigarettes taste like hookah or a ....?

i'm not exactly sure i get the rules, and i'm not sure i'll get an answer in this forum, but it looks like it's the only one i can post in, so here goes:

i just bought an EVOD kit.

i went into 'big bang' which is a vapor store here in ATL, and they started me off with the EVOD kit. it was $50, but had two e-cigarettes and everything i needed to start with. we bought two flavours, 'sinatra' at 18mg for my father and 'unrequited' at 18mg for me; they are supposed to be the closest imitations of a cigarette. they are both 'big bang' branded flavours.

anyway, the nicotine content is a bit too harsh, so i know i can change that, but my main concern is that there's this kind of 'old smoking water' taste to the whole thing, for those that have used hookah. i guess that's the only way i can describe it. is this determined by the propylene glycol or VG content, the flavour used, or is it just an inherent property of the whole e-cigarette thing?

i ask mainly because i want my dad to quit smoking, and i'm not sure he'd like this sort of thing (he hasn't started smoking his yet). we both like to smoke with coffee, and feeling like you're smoking a hookah pipe with your morning coffee isn't really cutting it for me.

Daniel, I am new to vaping also. I found tobacco flavors were a bit harsh. I experimented with different flavors and found for me sweet flavors work well and aren't harsh. I loved to smoke with coffee also and have been trying different flavor combos to see what's the best. I found so far a creamy chocolate flavor works well with coffee. Hope it helps

You're not going to find any flavors that mimic a tobacco flavor exactly. Can't make burning tobacco leaves and smoke flavor.

Having said that, try to find a brick & mortar vape shop within driving distance that allows sampling of their flavors prior to buying them. Don't limit yourself to just tobacco flavors to try; you might be surprise which ones you like.

As a former smoker I can tell you that the "tobacco flavors" never really did it for me...they all came across as flavored and never quite hitting the mark.
Then I discovered NET's (naturally extracted tobacco) and I found the flavors I was wishing for.
If you do not like the flavors you have try some others and don't be afraid to try other then "tobacco flavor".
Lots of places to but ejuice online if you cant find one you like at a B&M (brick and mortar store)

Well the taste is primarily to do with the particular flavors you get; other than that, if your coils are flooding I think you'll find the taste seem watery or muted.

When you press the fire button you should be able to hear the sound of the atomizer by holding it up to your ear; if you get used to that sound you will learn to detect whether your atomizer is flooding; hold it to your ear and fire, then turn it upside down and try again to see if there's a difference; if theres a difference the atomizer is flooding,.


sucking too hard can cause flooding. happens alot with new vapers

Ummm... yeah this forum is censored. It's a more interesting challenge to have an adult conversation without having to resort to foul language.

Not knowing what you were trying to resort to to describe your "water", there is such a huge array of flavor choices - including unflavored - that you don't have to settle for your "water" flavor. For some people finding flavors they really like is the hardest part of coming into this. However: Nothing will make up for a place selling dirt cheap liquids that have a nic base or PG or VG with a crappy "off" flavor in them. And nothing will ever taste like a cigarette - simply because you aren't burning anything with vaping. There are some good tobacco flavors, but that doesn't mean they taste or smell like smoking when you vape them either.

My little brother gets some liquids from Big Bang. He recommended to me Alien Piss, Ectoplasm and Fear The Rainbow.

When I first started vaping the flavors were a little difficult to pick up. I bought a bunch of sample sets from Awesome Vapor (in Cumming). As you stop using analogs the flavor becomes more alive and you taste so much more. I've been quit about 3 weeks now and the flavors and smells are better. Best thing I can tell ya is lean away from the "tobacco flavors" and move toward something else. Now I can recommend the "Nutty Tobacco" from Awesome vapor and "Rou's Hazelnut Tobacco" they are both very mild tobacco flavors with a hint of nuttiness (hence the name) The Nutty Tobacco has a very peanutty taste with a little macademia finish and is $8 for an 18 ml bottle. Rou's Hazelnut is of course a hazelnut blend but is $13 for a 18 ml bottle (organic ingredients).

also, i've found that i really don't like the sensation of vaping. honestly it feels like i'm inhaling sand. i do get a nicotine hit, but it burns my throat, dries my mouth, and i'm left with a scratchy sensation in my mouth. i'm going to be honest, smoking real cigarettes *feels* a lot healthier than this.

should the vaporizer be making popping sounds, sort of like a boiling pot? mine does this sometimes, but not everytime i vape.

i don't mean to be a party pooper, but isn't that just trading out one carcinogen for another? i'm trying to get my dad off smoking because of the health issues, and tobacco still has carcinogens on it— check out the people that have gotten lip and mouth cancer from chewing dip. i can't imagine that would actually be a healthy alternative to smoking, just a different way of doing it. i smoke a pipe occasionally, so i know it tastes great; it's just that it can't be healthy.

It may be bad equipment. Is there a name-brand or is it just called "EVOD kit?" You may have a bad tank (the top piece that holds the liquid.) I once found a "great" deal for some CE4 clearos online, and ordered 10 of them so I'd have back-ups and could easily switch flavors. Anyway, they were garbage. I tried rinsing them, cleaning/soaking in vodka, dry-burning the coils, trimming the rubber grommets to not choke the wick, etc. Nothing worked, they just tasted like burned grossness every time, and kinda burned my throat a bit. I can't say it was that same...ahem,...um, taste you are referring to, but if your tank has burning grossness, I could see how that could turn you away from vaping, very frustrating.
Now, I don't want to tell you that you have to go out and spend even more money on a new tank. You should definitely take the advice of others to go out the a local B&M store and try some flavors. My local store has a set-up of dozens of tanks filled with their different flavors to try out. If your shop has something like that, you know the tanks will be good and you can just concentrate on finding a good flavor. Bring Dad along with you so you can both try some new flavors and have a good vaping experience and not be discouraged from something that has helped so many people.

Also sometimes the juice made in a B&M is just gross, I bought cigarette flavor that tasted like maple syrup, still does after a month of steeping. Try some juice made by other companies.

Also, sometimes the different PG/VG ratios don't burn right in certain tanks. Nicotine level is a factor, but at 18mg it shouldn't be that burning and harsh.
But to answer your question, vaping should NOT taste like, ahem, special water, it should taste like yummy fruits and sweet desserts, and maybe even dill pickles or Cheetos if you're into that sort of thing.

that's very helpful. we did try out a bunch of different flavours at the bar, and honestly i'm not a "sweet" person; i hate sugary flavours and definitely don't want to smoke something sweet, but it seems like 99% of the flavours are sweet ones. i decided i liked the 'unrequited' the best, since it was relatively close to tobacco and not-so-sweet, so i still can taste that flavour a bit, and the *taste* per se isn't horrible (a bit hookah-ey, which is what i was concerned about). it doesn't really taste all that burnt, just kind of like "funky water".

the *sensation* of it in my throat is what's really irritating. i figured that was the high nicotine level. it feels like inhaling sand or soap suds. i could get by the flavour tasting odd if it wasn't for that part. do you think that could be the nicotine level or something else entirely?

if the funk taste and burning sensation is not supposed to be a part of it, that definitely brings me a bit of hope because this is really not what i expected, haha.

It is the concentration of nicotine (6%, 12%, 18%, 24%) which determines the "throat" hit (and sometimes the harshness/scratchiness) of the vapor. To a lesser degree the amount of Pg (propylene glycol) in the e-liquid. Nicotine e-liquid by itself has a peppery flavor. Dropping the nicotine concentration allows more of the e-liquids intended flavor to present itself in the vapor.

Don't make a judgement on e-liquids overall from just one brand of e-liquids. All of us have tried scores of flavors from multiple vendors to arrive with the flavors we are currently using on a daily basis.

Also, poor quality juice attachments can cause crappy taste. There's a natural progression in vaping from starter gear to advanced gear, especially with the juice attachments. Clearomizers, cartomizers, cartotanks, drip atomizers, rebuildable atomizers all present the flavor differently.

all atomizers vape differently, and the voltage or watts that you vape at will effect the vape. I started on cig-a-likes, and then something similar to what your gear is. This allowed me to quit smokes. Since then in my search for a more satisfying vape, have advanced to making my own juices, wrapping and wicking coils for my rba's, re-buildable atomizer, basically customizing every aspect of my vape. Vape provides me with more flavor, satisfaction and joy, then any cig, cigar, or tipperilla could ever hope to provide.

First frustrating thing I found found frustrating when stating vape, was finding the juice. Ones preferred ratio of VG/PG and nic level must be found. For me, high PG was to harsh/scratchy. So started increasing my VG. Now vape at 70-80% VG. Much smoother. Once you find that out, then it's just a matter of finding flavors that will satisfy.

There are just so many ways and styles to get ones vape on. Vape is a progressive hobby/passion. It can also become a hobby and collection. The more one vapes and learns, the more ways one finds to invest into their collection.

Next month, I will be a smoke free vaper for one year. I am healthier, happier, being a vaper, after 27 years of polluting myself with smokes. Best advice is to check out the rest of the forum, discover what vape has to offer, find something the makes sense to you, and will satisfy your goals and needs. If trying to quit smokes, vape will get you there.

Yeah, if it's not a burned taste, then the gear should be fine. The water taste (still puzzled be this) may just mean that the juice is new and needs to steep (age) longer, tobacco-like flavors take longer. If you liked it at the store (testers are usually 0mgs) and it's not burning horribleness, just a burning throat irritation, then it sounds like the nicotine level. Try a 6 or 12, a stick the 18 in the drawer/box. You'll be collecting a lot of those "someday I'll use this" bottles in that drawer/box.

how do you guys typically smoke these things? when i smoke cigarettes, i draw the smoke into my mouth, pull the cigarette away, and THEN inhale. with the device i'm using it seems like i have to just inhale it like air or i don't get enough vapour out of it. when i gave it to my brother to try, he ended up coughing and wheezing all over the place. he said it was like the sensation of drowning, the burning in his throat was so terrible. he's a pack-and-a-half-a-day smoker.

i kind of wish it *was* a bit more like hookah, in that you're inhaling water vapour and not all of these vapourized chemicals. it would be great if someone invented one of these things that ran on water.
