I just started vaping a few weeks ago and I'd like to get into DIY e-liquid. I've read up a lot on it and I think I have the basics down, but I could use some help with finding some good initial flavors/recipes.

We've tried about a dozen flavors from different companies and by far my favorite have been the cream and caramel types. I like the fruity stuff, but it always taste weak/less satisfying than the cream based ones. But now i'm reading about the diketone's. So if I'm going make my own, I figure I start off on the right foot. Can anyone share some diketone free cream/milk/caramel recipes they like? I'm not terribly hard to please, strawberrys and cream, peaches and cream, caramel apple, or just anything creamy will do.

Here is one I found in an internet search, has anyone tried this? Mustard Milk

BTW I'll be making high VG 70%+ at 3-6mg for my sub-ohm and about 50/50 12mg for our Nautilus mini tanks.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

I spent part of this afternoon browsing The Flavor Apprentice flavors on Wizard Labs' site, and there were a few you might like that are diketone free (according to them, I don't know how accurate their claims are, though). I only wrote down stuff I might be interested in, but there are several on my list, such as regular caramel (says it's better blended with other flavors), DX caramel (original flavor, DX means without diketones), cream soda, DX banana cream, DX Bavarian cream, French vanilla (supposed to be like the ice cream flavor), fruit circles with milk (Froot Loops cereal w/milk), Kahlua & Cream, malted milk, orange cream (Creamsicle), root beer float, and strawberries & cream. All of those said they contained no diketones.

There were other diketone-free flavors as well (including a PIZZA flavor! OMG!), so you might want to browse their flavors and see if there's anything you like that wasn't on my list.

The Flavor Apprentice

I'm sure there are other vendors that have diketone free cream flavors, but I'm so new, just beginning my research, that's the only one I have so far. But maybe it will help. :)

Edited: Of course, these aren't RECIPES, just the flavors, but you can play around with them and make up your own recipes.

Strawberries & Cream
Inawera Shisha Strawberry 16%
TFA DX Bavarian Cream 6%
TFA Vanilla Swirl 4.5%
CAP Sweet Cream 2%
TFA Sweetener 2%

If you have concerns about whether that Shisha Strawberry is diketone-free (it's organic, so there may be traces), then I'd suggest TFA Strawberry Ripe 8% + Capella Sweet Strawberry 8%. All the others are diketone-free.

Thanks, Andria! I'm not very good at helping, yet, am I? LOL! Well, I tried!

Everybody has to start somewhere. :D I just started DIYing "from scratch" about November of last year; so far my misses have FAR outnumbered my hits. :D

But diketone-free is a subject very near and dear to my heart; since I have asthma, I certainly don't want any risk of some awful disease that would make me "breathless" as the only symptom -- because how would I know? I spend a large part of my time breathless, thanks to the asthma!

Oh, I also have one other recipe, which I believe is also diketone-free; it's a bit more complicated; lots of ingredients, and the flavor profile does change a bit with "steeping" (aging), but it remains a flavor I keep on hand always, to give my palate a rest from that sweet strawberry & cream that's been my ADV since about Nov-Dec. It's very creamy, but also has sweet tobacco, coffee, and chocolate notes; though it has more ingredients, the total flavoring only comes to 25% instead of over 30%.

Smocha
Inawera Cappucino 2%
Inawera Coffee Tobacco 2.5%
Inawera Virginia Tobacco Absolute 2.5%
CAP Hazelnut v2 2.5%
TFA Vanilla Swirl 2%
TFA Milk Chocolate 3%
TFA Dbl Chocolate-Clear 3%
CAP SweetCream 5%
TFA Malted Milk 1%
TFA Sweetener 1.5%

As noted, steeping does change this one; at first it's very much a sweet creamy coffee with smoky and chocolate notes; over time, the tobacco flavor gets richer and smokier.

Thanks Andria for the recipes, I'll have to try them. That Smocha sounds pretty rich, I'm guessing it's more of a treat than an ADV. :)

ddirtyvapes, yeah I noticed the warnings on the flavoring sites, that was what I found so disheartening. I'd find these great sounding recipes on here and other places, then when i'd look up the flavoring they all inevitably had the warnings. Since i'm just starting, I didn't want to end up like others in the comments who are sad to find now that they don't feel safe making some of their favorite recipes anymore.

I do plan to do a lot of experimenting/tweaking with time. I just want to get off on the right foot with some flavor ideas. It seems like a good diketone free cream flavor is pretty tricky now with several flavors added to get the right feeling. With diketones it seems a lot of people just threw one nice strong cream/custard flavor in and a fruit and off they went.

Actually I use the Smocha 1) when I first wake up -- I taste the coffee most strongly then; and 2) after meals -- normally Smocha has a very light TH (which is why I like it when I first wake up!), but right after eating, the TH is *just right*, a whole-mouth tingle that feels very similar to what I recall from smoking, after eating anything. Once I no longer feel any TH from it, I put it aside and go back to the strawberry.

However I should note that I use the "Flash" additive in both of them, because I can't be satisfied without TH. I don't list it in my regular recipes because most people either vape higher-mg nicotine, which gives its own TH, or they don't care for TH at all. Using Flash is my own solution to needing substantial TH, though I vape such a low level of nic (10mg or less) as well as prefer sweet creamy flavors.
