Last night I was cleaning out my 'stash box' when I noticed I still had a bit of Smart Smoker's Choice Turkish Tobacco in 'low' nicotine. For the heck of it, I pulled out my trusty RN4081 to revisit the flavor that got me off the cancer sticks. Since I had only enough liquid for the equivilant of one cigarette, I thought it would only be appropriate to vape it in the device that initially made me a non smoker.
In case you didn't know, Smart Smoker's Choice liquids are rebranded Dekang. (Or I strongly think this is the case based on the label information.) I believe SSC Turkish Tobacco is actually Dekang Rose flavor because there was apparently a snafu at the factory and the original Rose labels weren't covered up with the rebranding labels. Since SSC Turkish and the Rose I purchased taste exactly alike, came in the same packaging, and appear in every regard to be the same, I think they are indeed, one and the same.
So, enough with the caveats, what does this stuff taste like?
Back when I started vaping, I believe I described the flavor as Raid bug killer. It does have an astringent quality that is definitely chemical like in nature. There is a touch of sweet on the inhale, and then the Raid flavor. Either throat hit is excellent, or my body is just struggling that hard not to inhale the stuff. Either way, Rose makes me want to cough. On the exhale is a Rose perfume scent. It's also astringent. There is nothing soft, romantic, or pretty about this juice. You do get a fair amount of thorns, however.
Vapor is weak. I think even if I'd dripped this on my Riva510 the vapor would have been light. The juice also leaves a gritty taste in your mouth. Sorta like you just ate a handful of Rose perfumed road sand and gravel.
In short, I can't really name any redeeming characteristics of this juice. It tastes like crap, vapor is non existent, and the texture it leaves in it's wake is like a sand storm blew through.
Even so, I found that I still liked it. I was pretty committed to quitting smoking, and this flavor, for better or worse, got me there. As I vaped on my trusty RN4081, I contemplated how far I've come in the last few months. At this time last year, it was inconceivable to me that I would ever be a non smoker. I'd tried and failed so many quit methods, but this Chinese Rose juice combined with a less than ideal PV got the job done.
I felt a sense of satisfaction as I took another drag and mused about how lucky I was to stumble on to vaping.
And then my SO walked into the room.
"Ugh. What stinks? Smells like an old woman died in here."
Come to think of it, Rose does have a slight funeral home note to it.
Call it a guilty pleasure, or nostalgia, or vaping insanity, but if I could find this in a 0 nicotine option, I would purchase it again.
