When I first started vaping I found that I couldn't directly inhale like I did with a cigarette.
I wound up using my ecig similar to what I assume a cigar smoker does, puff on it, get a mouth full of smoke, blow it out. As I got more used to it I found myself more able to inhale the vapor.

same exact experience for me. it didn't take long to get the hang of it, maybe a week or two. got my mom to try my ecig, and she ( super heavy smoker ) coughed after her first drag as well. i think i definitely inhale less vapor than i did smoke from a cig, which is a good thing. i prefer having less stuff going into my lungs. with vapor, we absorb a lot of the nicotine through our mouth as well, unlike cigarettes.

Same here. Still some days my first few vapes in the morning, I can't inhale without coughing my head off. This evening I was at the hairdresser's drinking some wine, and when I got out I picked up my e-cig and started coughing as soon as I tried to vape. I figure it has to do with my mouth and throat being dry, in the mornings from now having drank any liquids and this evening after having a few glasses of wine.

Keep your oral cavity moisted.
Try blocking the vapor with your tongue when you inhale, a barrier between vapor and your oral cavity, avoid direct contact, especially throat. ie. Draw with your tongue slightly over the ecig.
After a while, you'll adjust, get use to it. Then you can do it the normal way.
At least, that's my experience.

This is a very good point. Now that you mention it, I notice myself blocking the direct vapor hit using the tip of my tongue. Nice call!

You need to try another brand (or two) of e-liquid. If you get it in bottles with a dripper top, you can refill your V4L cartos by popping off the soft white cap and dripping a few drops down the side. Don't drip liquid centrally, onto/into that small centre hole (it's the air passage and will cause a leak).

I suggest you email a couple of specialist liquid vendors and ask them specifically for a very mild liquid. Get small sampler bottles.

roly..can you suggest a specialist vendor? There are so many liquid vendors I wouldn't know where to start.

I am not roly, but you could try velvetvapors.com they have organic flavors that she mixeds with 100% vg (on request)which is thinned, not thick. They have a phone # on website.....and great tasting, smooth juice.

good luck
:)

Thank you Sugar & Spice I'll check them out & try to talk to them on the phone.

It's nice that the forum e-mails the messages so I can refer back. I can't imagine trying to keep this all straight without that feature.

I can't really do that but as you see, others will step in.

You might also consider getting a very mild menthol mix especially if you use tobacco flavors. I never smoked menthol cigs but like it in some e-cig tobacco flavors. Everything is different...

Menthol is a good way of 'cooling' the throat and upper lungs.

I have a vague memory of coughing with my first pv. I found it much smoother to take 2 shorter draws than one long draw. Also, the nic level maybe too high. I started at 24mg and got used to it, but my daughters (grown) would immediately start coughing with that level. Over the months I've reduced it to 6mg which they have no coughing problems with.

Maybe that's the difference too. I smoked full flavor menthols, which are supposidly the worst you can smoke for your lungs (even switched to camel menthols when they had the lovely lil crystal to give you EXTRA EXTRA menthol). So my lungs may have been used to being full of crap already, whereas somebody who smoked lights may not have been :)
