I was puzzled by how to do cotton wick when I first got a bag of cotton balls, after many success builds, here are some pics of how I do it now, less is more! The pic with the tuft, is enough cotton for two heads! Don't forget flavor wick on top with a tiny bit of cotton to stip flooding... The secret of my wicks is I don't roll it at all, I simply taper one end, thread and pull it through my coil, my coil will end up smooshing it down... Keep it as fluffy as possible....

Very nice! I've just gotten into rebuilding bcc and have been thinking about trying this. Do you know about how long a cotton wick will last? Just kinda curious :p

If you keep your power down, and never dry burn, It'll last a week or two... Generally, I vape my cotton rebuilds in the PT with 7Watts... But I still have 80% of my first cotton ball left after 6 rebuilds!

That's still pretty good, considering how cheap a bag of organic cotton balls are  and how little you would need. What would that be in voltage? I have an mvp 1.5 so unfortunately I don't have variable wattage....yet lol

That would depend on the resistance of your head. You would need to apply Ohms law to calculate what voltage you would need to be 7watts at whatever resistance you are using. If you aren't familiar with that then you can get an ohms law calculator or the Android App Vaper's Toolbox. Both of which will help you figure that out.

That is the advantage of VW over VV. With VV you have to adjust it when the resistance of your head is changed. With VW you set the watts and the device adjusts the voltage for you.

This very well may be what I was doing wrong when I was making cotton heads. I found cotton balls to be insanely frustrating as each time I'd build one it was just a bad burnt taste, but I definitely wasn't using as little cotton as you're holding up there. I've since switched to cotton yarn (peaches and cream brand) and it's been crazy easy to build with, but I might have to pull a few cotton balls out to see what I can brew up, because, why not?

Awesome, what are the specs on the coil itself? It looks like a micro coil from the pick and what gauge and type of wire are you using? I'm hearing a lot of negative things about the Silica wick so I wanna convert to cotton.
Thanks!

The spec of the coil is 9/10 turn 30 AWG... I think... wrapped it around a 2mm shank of a jeweler's screw driver.

Came out 2.2 Ohms (the magic number IMO for BCCs)

The advantage of cotton is that it wicks very well, that's why I vape at 7.0 to 7.5W nominal vs 5.5 to 6.0W with Silica.

The downside is, you cannot dry burn, so test your coil loaded into the head first, then taper one end of the cotton fluff, thread it through the coil (while still mounted on the base), pull ot through from the other side, until the fat part of the cotton fluff starts catching. Trim the excess flush with the edge of the coil head's base (not the BCC's base), then loosely roll the excess fluff that was trimmed off and place it on top of the coil to serve ad flavor wick... at this point, I place the center post back on without the rubber seal, install the head into PT's base, prime the wick by putting a few drops of e juice onto the exposed parts of the wick, place the rubber seal back on top, fill tank, then screw the base of the PT back onto the tank. The. turn the whole PT upright so the wick can start fully soaking in the filled tank. I give it 15 min to 30 to fully soak (just to be one the safe side) then lower my watts to 6.5W, then slowly vape and increase my VW to 7.0W and voila! Full taste!

I found Silica to be quite muting, with cotton, you finally get to taste the juice that we paid for with our good money!

Of course, since I would get full flavor, I discovered how much I hated my Pina Colada juice because of this setup :p

Love the drink, hate the e juice... :)

My MBV green apple with double extra shot metaphorically punched me in the face first time I loaded it into cotton wiced PT... :)

I also use cotton in my RBA, which is now hits like a freight train!

Awesome! thanks for the info. I think I might just pickup some 30g Kanthal cause it seems like a happy medium between 28g and 32g. Just gotta wait till I get a multimeter or something to get a resistance reading.

Yup, Very true,

I use 28AWG for RBAs, 30AWG for my BCCs, but sometimes I use the 30AWG in my RBA for a stubbier coil with same resistance as a taller 28AWG...

I've been experimenting with 26AWG, but that's purely for RBAs...
