I filled up a new tank last night (Kanger Protank, if that makes any difference) with my favorite DIY Key Lime Cooler.

Now that I'm at the office, I could swear that it tastes like coconut! But I've never had any coconut flavorings, and it was a new clean tank with a brand new coil (no, I didn't wash the new tank with coconut shampoo :p).

I can taste the lime as well, but mostly coconut. Yeah, I know the song. Anyway.

What does anybody think here? Do some Kanger replacement coils taste like coconut? Are my taste buds freaking out from too much vaping? Am I going insane? :w00t:

Thank you in advance for your input. Be nice.

Did you degrease the tank before filling it?
Of course I did. I always soak new tanks in kerosene before boiling them in a pressure cooker full of Lime-a-Way.

How do you degrease, and does grease usually taste like coconut?

I vote taste buds

funny thing about taste: if you *think* it, you might actually taste it.
Unfortunately, it doesn't always work. I'm thinking about tasting steak and lobster, but my vape still tastes like coconut.
You're probably right about the taste buds. I guess I'll have to go home and vape some different flavors to see if they taste like coconut, too.

I might even stop by Denver Electronic Cigarettes on the way home and see if they have coconut ejuice. It's starting to grow on me.

Soak it in 91% denatured alcahol or everclear then wash in soapy water and rinse well.

I vape coconut DIY eliquid all the time.

Edit: a lot of Chinese company's will oil the metal parts to keep them from corroding. Some use synthetic oil some use natural oils. Coconut oil could be used.

Yeah, I know the song. Anyway.
<---(Has the lime in da coconut song stuck in his head now. It's a slight improvement over the Spongebob theme music that's been there all day.)
I get weird tastes from new cotton when I rewick. What flavor varies with the flavor of the juice I put in it. It usually goes away after the cotton breaks in.

You're welcome! I'll take Harry Nilsson over cartoon themes anytime.

One of the things that I was wondering about was the wick. New cartridge as well, of course. I'll just have to vape some more and see what happens...

I mostly use flavors and base from Flavorful Vapors. No complaints so far.

The juice is 13% key lime, 2% spearmint (I got the spearmint from Vapin' Viper), 1% dihydrogen monoxide, and the rest is VG. 0mg nic.
Well that explains it. That dihydrogen monoxide came straight out of a coconut!

Not many people know this, but dihydrogen monoxide kills more people than any other chemical.

Do you think that space aliens are replacing the Denver municipal water supply with coconut water? I've heard of them doing stranger things than that, to be quite honest. :w00t:

As the day has worn on, the coconut taste is fainter, but it is still there.

That might very well be it. I wouldn't have thought of that. Coconut oil would make a very good sealing lubricant. Very viscous. It's more difficult to remove than most other vegetable oils as well. I guess I'll have to add Everclear to the regimen.

Well, it appears that Boden was right. When I got home, I switched to the other new Protank that I had filled the night before (filled with lime/orange), and it also tasted like coconut. So I pulled out the other 5 (I got a deal) and, sure enough, they all smell faintly of coconut.

Everclear didn't take care of it, either, but isopropyl did. Yes, I rinsed the heck out of them.

So, tip o' the drip to Boden for solving the mystery. Thanks!
