I'm not a forums guy but after browsing Google on multiple occasions, I've never found a person I can relate to, in terms of experience with smoking to vaping.

The many threads I find say something to the power of:
1. Smoking too much
2. Quit smoking
3. vaping too much
4. vaping decreased gradually

My experience has been quite the opposite actually. I smoked for 4 years, I quit with vape, continued to vape for 3 years, and gradually became a chain-vaper! The amount of vaping I've done has gone from the few puffs every hour, on the hour, to every waking moment.

Please tell me someone can relate.

I've found myself with headaches, asking myself why I can't put the damned thing down. I've told people that I wish I had a timed lockbox, so that my e-cig becomes inaccessible for an hour. I go through so much juice daily, it's unreal.

While it is an embarrassing claim, it's true, I'm not just being dramatic. I'll be the first to admit, I have an addictive personality. I've been grasped by alcohol and opiate addictions on separate occasions and quit both. I've been sober for 3 years now, and hey I even quit caffeine cold turkey lol. Why is this vape so tough to kick?

I don't want to quit necessarily, but I'd like to cut way down. I truly feel like vaping is much more addictive than all of the above. When opposed to cigarettes, maybe not in nicotine amounts but definitely the process is- for me.

It's apparent that vaping, to me, is a separate entity than smoking. At first, I used it as a cig substitute- which is why I only used it when I needed a fix AKA once every hour or so. Now, it is an alternative to breathing.

My (obvious) thoughts on causes:
- It's simply pleasant.
- Anywhere, anytime. I've become attached to my mod. Won't leave the house without batteries or juice. If I did, I'd have a panic attack.
- I'm a gamer, this is when I find myself puffing like a chimney. No more cigarette breaks was nice at first.
- I've found amazing quality/price juice, so I've stocked up over the years.
- Addictive personality, gotta find the next substitute somewhere.
- My time at home consists of: nothing. I like to be lazy.
- My time at work consists of: next to nothing. I have a LOT of down time (16 hour shifts).
- I'm a big money saver, I order juice like its nothing because money is not really tight.
- I stock up on everything. Atomizers, replacement glass, batteries, battery wraps. I'm not sure if people buy 20 replacement atomizers at once like I do lol.

I'm not a cloud chaser, I've never appealed to the trendy side of vaping. In fact, sometimes I try to hide my habit. The stigma of "manbun+fidget spinner = vaping" is cringe worthy and I'd rather not admit that I partake. I vape 1.5mg nic, I fill up my tank maybe 10 times a day and I have over 300 puffs a day.

If you have read to this point, you're a champ and I appreciate you. If you have thoughts or suggestions, I'd love to hear them. However, it has been therapeutic just writing this. I've recently found out that timed lockboxes do exist, and I plan to use one to cut down.

If you vape or plan to, I don't want to discourage you. In my mind, it's an all-around better experience than cigs. That said, I do think the process is more addictive. If I were you, I would just be careful of forming unnecessary habits. I don't care if no one is opposed to vaping indoors, don't do it! That will lead to chain vaping. Dedicate one area to vaping, just like we did with cigarettes. Try your best to occasionally vape, with at least 1 hour in between each session. and LET'S NOT BE NAIVE, vaping is not harmless and I can't stand when people claim it so!

Thanks for reading.

I don't think there's anything wrong with it at all. You have your low nic, high juice consumption vapor, then the high nic, low consumption vapor. I also am mtl, but vape high nic, 24mg, but only vape maybe 3mls per day, no chain vaping.....both ways are still better then smokes. I take a couple vapes and I'm good to go for a good while, because that high nic instantly satisfies me and keeps me from vaping constantly

I agree, either way it's better than smoking but I believe it's more of a psychological issue for me. I vape way past "satisified", I'm doing it just to pass time apparently. I vaped 18mg nic just as much. I quickly lowered because I realized low nic still has a throat hit. That's what I chased mainly.

I suppose it's frightening to think I've picked up this habit of vaping every waking moment to achieve mental satisfaction.

In my opinion at a certain point you've got to ask yourself what you're really fighting against. Why is vaping all day a problem for you, beyond the fact that we've built a culture that pathologizes everything branded addictive?

The broadly clinical definition of an addiction is a behavior that is actively harmful to the person in some way, so if the primary harm you're experiencing is the psychological guilt of having an addiction in a society that condemns it, there you go. And if the problem is times in the day when your urge to vape is hurting you because you should be doing something else, then I think that would be more of a general behavioral problem that could be approached tactically in cognitive therapy.

The overwhelming desire to vape does seem a legitimate problem in itself, and is definitely an outlier from most people's experience, in that I know I'm not alone in being astounded how quickly I went from being a smoker getting the shakes within an hour of the last drag to being a vaper who could handle 8 hours of vape-less traveling and only be mildly cranky at the end. And I am also a chain vaper. If I'm awake, my mod is my Vader mask most of the time.

But just given the rough outline of your background, I would suggest approaching it as a problem of behavior modification, and not an indication that vaping constantly is inherently a negative, or a sign that it's as addictive for you as tobacco was.

Everybody in this world has a behavior or habit that they do so regularly it could qualify as compulsive or addictive. Where we draw the line from normal to addiction is always blurry, so embrace that and accept the behaviors that are least risky in order to suck the fuel out of the compulsion to engage in the behaviors that are legitimately dangerous, is my philosophy.

Well said. I just find it mentally exhausting. After a days worth of vaping, I find myself demanding to cut back but the next morning it's great once again lol. If nothing else, I want to get back to really enjoying it. Not just get a few fantastic drags and vaping the rest of the day for sh*ts n giggles

If you want to Cut Down, Don't Hold your Mod in your Hand. Take 3 or 4 Hits, then put you Mod down on the other side of the Room. And Don't carry your Mod with you when you go places like the Store or the Movies. Leave it in your Car.

Not a Debate or an Opinion. Just something that Happened to me Related to Teaching and School.

I teach at a college and Many of my students know that I am a former Smoker who now uses e-Cigarettes. I had a student two semesters ago ask if he could vape During class? I told him No.

He was polite but wanted to know what the reason was. I told him that our College has a No e-Cigarette use policy on campus Policy (Parking Lots and Cars is Fine) so it really wasn’t my decision to make.

I asked him if he could get through a Two Hour class without taking a hit of his e-Cigarette? He said “Yeah, But I think about it All the Time.” I asked him if he had his PV with him right now and he pulled out an eGo from his Shirt Pocket.

I told him that Maybe he wouldn’t think about it so much if he Didn’t carry his PV to class? I asked him try something. To leave his PV in his car when he came to my class and see if it helped. He kinda looked at me funny but said he would try it.

I never said anything else to him about it but for the next couple of weeks every time I would come into class I would look at him and Wink while I pointed at my Shirt Pocket. I think the rest of the class though I was Crazy.

On the day of the Mid-Term, the student said he wanted to talk with me after class. After all the exams were turned in he told me that he had been leaving his PV in his car when he was on campus. He said that he wasn’t constantly thinking about taking a Hit or Stealth Vaping much anymore. And that he could concentrate more not only on my class but All his classes. I told him that was Great because he was somewhat struggling with the course material in my class. (Some people just have a hard time with Math.)

He also said that he was starting to leave his PV in his car when he went to the Mall, to Movies and to Restaurants.

I didn’t talk much with him for the rest of the semester. When I did it was always about some Math Concepts.

About the last week of classes I was getting out of my car when I saw a Student running towards me waving their arms a shouting something. Trust me. A student Waving their Arms and Shouting is Seldom a Good Thing. But it was my student and he had this Big ....ty Grin on his face.

He told me that two days ago he got to campus and realized that he had left his PV at home. He said that he was going to drive home after his Chem class to get it. But after class he had gone to the Library to study Math and it was about a Hour into his studying until he realized that he still didn’t have his PV. He decided just to stay on campus and study Instead of going home for the PV. That this was the first time in a Year of vaping that he had Not Freaked Out or Rushed home to get his PV.

He went on to say that he didn’t Stealth Vape anymore and if he was busy doing something, that he could go for Hours before he “Needed” to take a Hit. He was so Animated and kept wanting to shake my hand.

He ended up getting a “C” in the class. But when I saw him the following semester he said he wanted a “B” but was OK with the Grade because he learned something Very Important. And it didn’t have Anything to do with Math.

You're trying to Fill a Hole in you that an e-Cigarette just Can't Fill. Chew Gum Instead until you can Figure Out what's up with that hole.

WHAT?? You can count your puffs?? J/K..

I feel ya. While I don't have the problem at work, if I'm someplace I can vape.. I Vape! If I'm someplace I shouldn't or can't vape.. I don't.

Doesn't help that I make my own eliquid, can make my own mods and use RTA's and bottom feeders.

No plans to stop though.

That's a great and inspiring story, honestly. I thought I had the willpower but I've never felt weak until vaping and I think it's part to the vape "freedom" that I spoiled myself with. I've been a stealth vaper for too long.

I'm going to give it a serious go, thanks for the advice.

A lot of us did the same thing. Like several have said up your nic a little or just wait over time as your nic dependency decreases you will slow down. As far as bowing down to public opinion thats a very personnel thing. I could care less about others thoughts about me are. Its really none of my business what other people think anyway.

You have to Break The Habit of having your Mod in your hand all the time. And Move towards the way you Smoked.

Light a Cigarette, take 10 Hits or so and then it's Over. There's No "Over" with an e-Cigarette. It's like a Never Ending Cigarette. So by physically putting it down, you Mentally make it Over.

Just Little by Little. You can get there.

I am a chain vaping right now. (puff). Now, I am typing. (puff). I always carry my mod. (puff). The fact is; my health is better, I don't smell of cigs. (puff). And, yet, I still wonder like you, if I am doing it too much. (puff). There has been some talk here of how some of us whose parents smoked while pregnant and then smoked around us (2 packs a day) (puff) caused us to become nicotine dependent. I never, ever could really "Quit", I always had a "back up" pack in a purse or knew that a jacket had a few cigs in it. (puff) It is just what I am, a product of my environment and conditioning. (puff). I can sit through a movie, (maybe), (puff). I can sit and make jewelry. which requires two hands, for maybe 20 minutes at a time without puffing. (puff). There is a new thing called a figit spinner that may help you do someting with your hands and engage your brain, since you think of vaping all the time, it may help. (puff). Good luck!!
