Hi all, I'm currently looking into upgrading from my current protank setups and on to carto tanks. I'm looking into ibtanked, my question is are these ~40-50 dollar setups worth the dough? I've never tried a carto tank before and am (currently) pretty pleased with the protanks/iclear 30s that I'm using now.

It seems most people that are heavy into vaping are into carto tanks or rba's. Should I make the change? Any advice appreciated.

Thanks

I agree with the other person about trying a cheap one from a local first to see if its your thing. I have an IBT they are great and definitely worth the money. Any carto tank (not just IBT) will be a good flavor and hassle free vape. I get about a week out of each carto with pretty hard vaping. It has definitely changed my vaping since switching to cartos. It is a night and day difference between the clearos or kanger products.

Not really worth the money, to be honest. Sure some of them might be able to put custom designs or might have super-duper-heat-treated-at-the-center-of-the-earth pyrex glass and can be dropped from the empire state building without a scratch, but really in the end a tank's a tank. Like most thing what really matters is what's inside it. My smoktech dct does its rather simple job just as well as my phiniac.

Most of the liquids I enjoy 'require' a glass tank, unfortunately. Are there any cheap alternatives for glass carto tank? If I end up liking it odds are I'll head back to ibtanked anyhow which is kind of why I was debating just getting that out of the way.
Get a Smok Pyrex DCT 1. I get them for $10 from a local vendor, they're very sturdy and a good "beginner" tank.
Pyrex DCT V1

Get some Smok cartos for it. They're not bad - Boge's and Ikenvapes rate higher, but Smok's will get you into the game.

If you like it, then get the IBTanked. They're very well built, and highly rated by carto users.

Read Baditude's blog posts on carto tanks - how to prime and use them:

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...-5-baditudes-cartomizer-tank-setup-guide.html

I think you'll enjoy them - they're a better vape. More vapor, a LOT more flavor, and while they're finicky to get primed, they're prime and puff, no fiddling once they're up and going. I have one that's going on 3 weeks now, perfect performance. It may be retired later today, as I want to switch flavors.

I was pretty happy with ProTanks, but out of curiosity, like you seeing lots of recommendations, got an IBTanked to try out.
I found
a) INITIALLY seemed like MORE trouble to fill - just a little bit more hassle and spilling...
b) That KIND of faded, but it's still true - I have however decided it's outweighed, and I'm buying more tanks
c) There is a flavor improvement. A stock carto tastes better than a stock coil - and I don't enjoy wrapping coils...
d) There is a BIG difference in the ability to "keep up" - a Protank, even working properly, can't wick enough juice for repeated "big hits". A carto can.
e) For the same reason, a carto is OK at slightly higher voltage. I usually kept Protanks under 4 volts (with coils running typically about 2 ohms). SAME resistance, a carto is OK at 4.2, 4.3 no problem - which lets you hit harder, and bring out more flavor.
f) Less trouble at the back end - once you prime a carto and fill a tank, you're good for a long time. The tank's bigger, and the carto's good for...well I haven't figured that out yet - maybe a week? Maybe 2 weeks?

I think it's worth it just for the flavor.
So now I'm collecting tanks (and I still have ProTanks in unopened boxes- might have to sell something soon).

Hi I'm a new member here, but I've been using carto tanks for a while. Like BillyWJ said above, Smoktech DC tanks aluminum over pyrex are relatively inexpensive (11-15 USD) and pretty easy to use.

I use smoktech 2.5 single coil cartomizers with them and I actually prefer them to the boge because I think they wick better, but that's just my opinion.

There's actually a really good guide about these, you can find it here: stop-worrying-and-love-the-carto.wikia.com/wiki/Home

RBA's and cartomizers are totally different. I have yet to try any RBA's since I'm not all that crazy about building my own coils.

I agree with other posts here that what matters in the cartomizer (if going to the cartomizer way). I don't notice a big difference between Smok and Ikenvape's cartomizers as far as taste goes, though it seems with the juice I use the Ikenvape cartos last longer. I still use PT2's but the flavor is better with cartomizers. They are a little harder to fill. Definitely check out Bad's blog. Lots of good info there.

You COULD switch to a "compatible" flavor - but the carto itself is going to have at least a ml of the old flavor in it...
So for a clean switch, you need a new carto.
You want to use a carto for juice you're gonna vape for a while!!
You could pull the carto, wet, and store it til you vape that flavor again...

Me, I think I'll end up with a tank for each of my favorite flavors, basically!
And use the clearos I have for NEW flavors that I'm not as sure about.

Switching flavors requires a carto change? Can they be cleaned or at ~2.00 a piece should you just replace them?

Size of carto tank depends on what you have. 19mm work well on K100s and VTR, or is flush with the top cap of a ProVari. 22mm is the diameter of a ProVari and most other mods. 25mm goes with Silver Bullet and the Cool Fire 2.

I primarily use carto tanks. IBTanked are my favorite, and well worth it. I have had one tube break in a fall, but it's like $6 to replace it. Once you get the hang of it, they are easy to use. Clearos to me are a pain and leaky.

Looking for a good option on an mvp2.

EDIT: will be getting a provari (reg or mini to be determined) or an itaste 134 very soon.
