You sir, deserve a medal.

I've only been vaping for a couple of days and was beginning to get a little irritated by the whole thing. Every time I filled my carts they'd last about 10 drags before the vapor and throat hit trailed off, not to mention the juice running into my mouth! I then tried direct dripping and although i'd get good vapour I got even more juice in my mouth and it was starting to piss me off something chronic.

I have just tried this out with a cotton bud and  it's superb! I get a great throat hit, loads of vapor, the cartridge holds more juice and I can vape longer without having to top up :D

Ever since I got my -901 and reading the posts in the forum, everything I see, I try and incorporate into a better vaping experience.
While getting a cup of coffee, I noticed one of those reusable fine mesh metal screen coffee filters that we don't use anymore. I cut a strip about the width of the cart and about 3 1/2 inches long, rolled it up and stuffed it in just below the lip. It could be my imagination, but I believe I increased vapor and significantly increased throat hit.
It has been just a few hours and I have not flooded the atty, needed to top-off, or tasted anything but the liquid.
If this has been tried before are there any drawbacks? I'm sure there is a fancy way to roll the mesh someone could share.

Brilliant mod. Right now I'm using the "guide" from an acupuncture needle. It's very narrow and the plastic is quite rigid so it works great. It's not worth buying the needles for (you need a sharps container to get rid of them on top of everything else) so I shall be stocking up on coffee stirrers.

If you're planning to use a metal straw, avoid ones with zinc in them. It's toxic. I know people who have lost pets because they chewed on things with zinc in the glue or the paint on their cages had zinc it in. I know big humans can probably withstand a lot more of it than a monkey or a bird could, but we've quit smoking to get away from toxins, not to swap the ones in cigarettes for new ones.

Zinc is also in multi-vitamins and immune-boosting cold remedies. I'd have to see exactly how much would be bad for a person. It could be huge amounts. Now if it were lead...

Yes, my wife makes me take zinc lozenges during cold season.
Maybe she just wants my insurance money so she can be a woman of leisure!

Most people get their RDA through food, especially if they eat meat. It's not highly toxic to humans but can cause gastrointestinal and respiratory problems including a (permanent) loss of your sense of smell. People who have a habit of putting coins in their mouths (or swallowing them) have needed treatment.

You're not going to drop dead if you use a metal straw with zinc in it but you're also not talking about occasional exposure. How many times a day do you suck on your PV? You're better off using a straw with no zinc in it.

Why have I waited so long?!? I've been reading about the straw mod for a while now and thought I was perfectly happy with everything the way it was, but I decided to give it a shot and see...

Holy vape, Batman! I can't believe the difference it makes. Great hits, amazing flavor, and I only have to refill the cart about a 10th as often as I used to!

If you haven't tried this mod yet, don't wait as long as I did!

(Off I go to look at other mods I should have tried long ago...)
