I have read here and there that for certain liquids the nic content has an effect on the flavor. Recently I got an order of an e-liquid that does not taste like the previous 2 orders. This one has a waxy and somewhat chemical flavor. It was suggested that since my last order was 11mg and this one was 6mg some of the background flavors (specifically the PG). Here are my observations:

- fruit flavored juice, 50/50 PG to VG ratio
- when received, this one was significantly lighter in color that the previous one
- the last one was vapable out of the box, this one has been steeping for a month and still not even close to the flavor level of the previous order.
- as I noted earlier, waxy and mild chemical flavor
- this is actually one of my wife's favorite flavors and she pointed it out to me. She is really disappointed.

I am considering ordering another one at 11mg along with 6mg to try. Oh, and I have been vaping for 4 months so my taste buds could be a factor here. This flavor was in the very first e-cig order I got.

Thoughts?

You are correct, sir! Nic definitely changes the flavor -- for the better if you ask me. The times I have tried super low nic I was AMAZED at how unfamiliar the flavor was, not just in TH or oomph, but overall depth of flavor. I guess it's akin to a real drink vs. a "virgin" drink -- there is a potent driving force of an ingredient missing. Sure, nic is supposed to be flavorless, but that doesn't mean it won't do something to the other flavors, and I am sure you have seen and will see, nic enhances and helps in the overall development of the flavors IMO.

Mr.Man, this explains a lot. The wife and I are thinking of ordering another bottle but at higher nic and mix the two. We can then get it to 12mg (close to the last order nic content) and try that.

Thanks! Your help and experience are always appreciated!

I am one of the rare (?) cases where I have drastically increased my nic. I think it's easier to start high and work your way down than to start low and get a taste of some high-powered juice -- NOTHING beats it!

I totally recommend everyone start higher than they think they should (to a maximum of 24mg) and then work their way down. My personal plan is to make it 1 year to get away from smoking and then set a timeline, say every season and come down a step until I'm at 0mg. What is a step? I'm not sure yet. It could be 1 mg it could be 4mg. Time will tell.

I am doing something similar but completely dissimilar -- similar in that we both have goals of less consumption, dissimilar in how that goal manifests itself: I am vaping bbetween 18 - 32 mg, but far less than I did when I was solely at 12 - 18 mg. With the higher nic, I spend a lot less time consuming (I am not a fan of indulging on much anymore). My goal is to vape when needed and when wanted as opposed to a non-stop chase that never results in a true sense of satisfaction (for me).

p.s. I am not trying to contrast what anyone else is doing, but, by saying that for me, that way works the best. Plus, as the the topic suggests, I get much better flavor out of the higher nic.

I'm coming around to that way of thinking. I started at 12mgs, for no particular reason other than I thought it was about medium strength. My reasoning was that if I needed more nic I could just vape more. Well, I didn't realize how much more...I've been vaping like a freaking dragon. I feel like I can't go anywhere without my binky - so I just ordered my favorite vape in 18mgs. I was a 1.5 PAD smoker and I guess 12mgs was too low to start with, but I did quit after one vape.

Well, go figure. We decided to try another day with the cap off steeping even though it has been a month of steeping already. EleanorR would be proud as I am learning my stepping skills from her.

Anyway, its fine now. I'm still going back up to 12mg on my next order though.

Which juice?
