Hi All

I have an issue (and the voices refuse to help on this one). I have been vaping Marlboro High(18) which, and I'm not sure about the technical definition, I can feel in my mouth when I inhale. It also leaves a faint aftertaste which helps with the psychological feeling of actually smoking. However, there are times I vape too much, not to the point of nicotine overdose or anything, but my mind thinks it's too much.

I have made some juice using vegetable glycerin and some flavoring (coconut or vanilla) which tastes OK, AND produces INCREADIBLE vapor clouds. This of course, has no nicotine, as desired. However, I also don't get any throat hit or real aftertaste, so I am finding it mentally unsatisfying.

So, all of this leads to two questions....

1) Do the low/no nicotine juices have the same taste, hit, aftertaste as their high nic counterparts?

2) Is there something non-nicotine/non-poisonous I could add to my mix to provide a little hit/aftertaste? I have tried adding some Marlboro high to it, but it only provides the faintest of ... hit to the mix.

OK, how many of you have actually spent way too much time analyzing the various reasons, feelings, perceptions, and tastes concerning our smoking habits. ;)

I think that some of the unpronounceable ingredients we've been told about in commercial eliquid are to do with harshness. By all accounts Johnson Creek eliquid doesn't have a big throat hit and they say that they don't add many chemicals. My diy juice is smoother than ready made juice of the same nic level too. I don't think the hit is to do with nic at all but is more about additives.

We may need to define what is meant by 'hit', 'harshness', 'buzz', etc? Are we all talking about the same things?

I have a feeling that the nicotine 'buzz' is not the same as throat 'hit' or 'harshness'.

For me the nic has a buzz, a physical feeling, a bit of a rush. The vapour sometimes has a hit or harshness to it in my mouth that I think might be additives. I can get the nic 'buzz' without the 'hit'/'harshness' with diy juice and presumably those who tried the 24mg Johnson Creek juice and said it was 'smooth' were not missing out on nicotine content.

It's semantics but if we're not talking about the same things we're just going to get confused.

To me (might be different over there)
Hit = Puff/Drag/one inhale
Buzz = lke you said, the dizzy feeling when you get to much nic, or to fast.
Harshness = it the amout you can handle, does it burn, scratch, make you cough, feel like you have been gargling with glass? :D
With the Opposite being smoothness creamy, or luxury of a smoke.

To me "throat hit" is a feeling bordering on harshness, but a good kind of harshness that feels good - like you actually got something other than just air. This feeling also happens on the back of the roof of the mouth. Menthol, especially menthol crystals, gives a similar "feeling," for me but without the nicotine. The flavors I've been playing around with don't really give much of a throat hit, but since I am tasting something, and feeling it a little bit too, it is quite satisfying for me. If I want that "throat hit" feeling, I can always add some high nic tobacco e-liquid. My favorite is Jane's. Cash's is very good too, but it's kind of like the difference between Coke and Pepsi.

harshness you got right the rest seem wrong in your explanation.

THROAT HIT or KICK = The burn at the back of your throat

THE HIT = The buzz racing heart..mild amphetamine feelings.

Wow. I've unleashed a monster. :)

Ok, For me, I need to feel the vapor in my mouth and throat. Much like Janet described with Menthol. I have even been considering trying menthol for that...throat hit, but I am not a menthol fan. If I can ... feel the vapor in my mouth, I find that much more satisfying. With my home-made mix, I definitily get the vapor (visibly) but there is almost no feeling that the vapor is in my mouth.

Then there is the slight aftertaste. I find I also like this as it is not unpleasant, but builds as I vape and I can use this as a indicator that I have vaped quite enough for a single session.

Third, the nicotine "buzz" doesn't appear to be a problem for me. I can say I'm obviously getting enough nicotine, (because I know from experience) ... I am not getting the jittery'ness and craving I get when I am not smoking enough. I have also puffed enough sometimes to start to upset my stomach. This is how I know there is a physical and a phsycological aspect to my addiction.

So I guess, I'm looking for something I can vape that has the first two (throat/mouth hit, and aftertaste) without the nicotine. Does such a thing exist? And do the no-nic juices have the same characteristics as the high-nic juice (hehehe characteristics is a BIG word).

(...and is it free...100% healthy...make my teeth whiter...make me able to leap tall buildings....etc....etc....etc)

I believe that you can get the hit without the nicotine, it's to do with additives in commercial eliquid. You won't get the same harshness with diy juice and maybe not with Johnson Creek (they say that they avoid unnecessary chemicals).

You could try a low nic version of a flavour that already gives you a hit and see what happens. If it's decent quality stuff, the taste and hit should be the same ... I suppose ... lol. Who knows, I'm just guessing.

Let us know the outcome if you try it.

Thanks Kate. I figured I would add a no- or low-nic bottle on my next order anyway, but I was hoping to find someone that had tried both and could speak to the differences. I hate to make an order and spend $10/$20 just to find out it's like vaping water.

I have juice by JC, Janty, and Puresmoker, but they are all high-nic. I'm trying to adapt my constant purchasing to things I expect to enjoy, and not just EVERYTHING. lol

It might be possible also that a flavored juice would work (taste/aftertaste). I like the puresmoker cherry juice, but again, I have the high-nic version.

I used to be able to just buy anything I wanted, but now that I have to pay for all the U.S. Companies that manage themselves into the ground, I'm trying to be more thrifty.

I know Kate and I both cut high-nicotine liquid with vegetable glycerine and/or commercial flavors from Bickford's or LorAnn. Make 50% of your mix from each, nic liquid of known strength and glycerol. You now have a known lower-strength liquid. I cut with both glycerol and Bickford Kahlua flavor (that has PG). Nice end result, too, with far more flavor than any commercial e-liquid.
