Box mod clouds vs mech mod

Neither is better or worse in terms of straight-up cloud chasing, it's about the safety of box mods.

Mech mods put out a certain amount of power depending on the resistance of the atomizer you put on it, if you put a 1 ohm coil on it it will be outputting around 13 watts, if you put a 0.5 ohm coil on a mech it'll be outputting around 30 watts, which in most cases gives you perfectly good clouds based on the build you're using, the lower the ohms the bigger clouds you tend to get but mech mods are inherently unsafe.

Regulated box mods give you safety when vaping, they protect against short circuits in your atomizer, they don't let you drain your battery below a safe level etc. Technically you can create bigger clouds with a box because you can throw more power at your coils than a mech would give out, so you can do everything you can do with a mechanical mod you'll just be safe while doing so, and if your build isn't quite working right you can dial down the power so you don't get dry hits etc.

I definitely recommend regulated devices over mechanicals in my opinion, you can get the same or sometimes better vape but cut out the safety concerns of mechanicals if you're not sure about them.

Your clouds depend largely on your atty's airflow, coil builds, wicking techniques, and your inhale/exhale technique. Rip Trippers has a pretty good video that nails the inhale/exhale technique part, and so does Leo S (both on youtube).
The differences between regulated box vs tube mech is largely just having the battery safety built in vs having to use your brain and simple maths to confirm.
Mechanical box mods though... That's where the sub-0.1-ohm atmosphere-changing, galaxy-bending, (potentially unsafe) nebulae are. ;)

Yeah, you couldn't pay me to put builds on a mech that come within 15, 20% of the CDR; that effectively limits my wattage to 75 or so, and that doesn't even include voltage drop. So probably 65 on a spectacularly good day.

But with a Sig 150, I'd feel rather comfortable going up to 150 watts. The amp drain per bat would only be 150/10.5 ~ 14.3 amps (assuming the thing shuts off when batteries are drained to 3.5 volts), well within a decent battery's 20A CDR. Of course, I don't know that I could build anything that vapes well at 150 watts, but I'd be very comfortable with the amount of current.

So, in conclusion: Mechs are fine for modest clouds if you've got a good head on your shoulders, I'd say high wattage box mod for serious clouds, any day.

I prefer mech mods now because I don't have to worry about damaging it when I clean since there's no electronics, its smaller so I can fit a bottle of juice in the same pocket and another mod if I wanted to but I dont

and honestly I personally feel cooler when I use it compared to when I used a big box mod, just looked weirder to me

its all preference
