Hello,
I've been using the blu starter kit for about 2 months now. I'm getting sick of the low battery life and expensive cartridges ( and their short lifespan) that the blu is restricted to... I'm looking to upgrade to something that i can fill with my own e-juice, but i don't really know how it all works. I like the cig sized models ( i dont want a mod) and have heard the volt and joye are good options. can anybody fill me in on what i would need? ie: do i order blank cartomizers along with the new battery and fill them myself? How often would i need to replace the fillable cartomizers etc? and atomizers? i guess i would need those as well. .. any help would be appreciated. Thanks

You sound exactly like me.
I have been using the Blu Premium 100.
Same exact issues as you.
It's good for work, but I wanted something better.
Just got the Johnson Creek Vea System.
So far it's been amazing.
I'm vaping the prefilled cartos, that came with the kit for now.
Have the juice sampler starter kit too. I'll start using it over the weekend. The battery is more cigar sized and manual. But the vapor production and battery life are incredible. I hope this helps.

Welcome to the forum! I started with a v2 cigalike, and didn't like the short battery life, expensive carto's and so on and so forth. When I joined the forum. it was suggested I go to a Joyetech eGo-C vv 1,000 mAh. (The Spinner 1,300 mAh is also a good choice) I took that suggestion, and was very pleased! I had to work on the delivery device to find out which was best for me.

I tried, but didn't care for the Vivi Nova. I then tried a Splitfire, and liked it, much better for flavor, but the coils are a PITA to change out, even though I still use this tank occasionally. I settled on a cartomizer tank system, and am still using that. I think you'll just have to experiment with the delivery systems to see what works best for you.

Edit: Finding a juice vendor is another trial and error. What types of flavors do you like?

are you SURE you don't want to just skip the fuss and go to something like an eGo (sharpie size)
there is no cig-alike with a long lasting battery. thats why they are small.. they have small batteries.
The best your gonna get from a cig-alike is basically what your getting now. 3 hours is the norm.
with an eGo battery, you'll get 4 hours with the 400mah, 6 hours with the 650mah. Both still small.
I can recommend you go for an eGo till my fingers cramp but you still might throw money at cig alikes.
I can't help that. We all do it. I bought 3 cig-alike kits before I became comfortable with eGo + mods.
And we all wish we had just gone strait to the eGo/mods from the start.
But you may only vape a little bit and the cig-alike is what you CAN be happy with.
(Just, you asked about battery life, and I'm giving you the skinny.. no cig-alike has "good" battery life)

Anyhoo, your right, the Volt/Bloog are both great devices and both come from stand up vendors.
I recommend the larger 78mm versions if you've currently got a 65mm kit, you'll get an extra half hour.
SmoklessImage or BloogMaxFusion (google for them) are the vendors I recommend, they rock.

Forrrrr cartomizers... The Volt/Bloog are 808 styled batteries (male connection)
So they both take 808 cartomizers (female cartomizers) instead of 510 cartomizers.
(which is what your BLU is, its a 510 style e-cig that takes 510 (male) cartomizers.

Both the Bloog and the Volt site have cartomizers for sale. You can buy juice anywhere.
You can actually fill up any cartomizer with the juice bottle. U just need to buy juice! :p
A cartomizer fill will last around half a day or so (for a heavy vaper) So just refill it back up!
(or have extras already filled) and just keep fillin them till they die in a month or so.
You can buy 510 cartomizers (blank/empty) for your Blu too. 510 cartos from any vendor will do.

Hi all,
Thanks for the great advice. I'm not hell-bent on the "cig style" models, but i just prefer something in that range. I'm just not interested in something that has multiple batteries in sequence. My main issue with the blu is not the battery life..even though yes it does suck. I don't mind recharging frequently as much as i hate that a "pre-filled" cartridge seriously gives me about 10 good hits and then its like the nicotine is totally depleted as well as the flavor soon after. thanks again everybody.

I also recommend skipping the cigalikes and going with an eGo variable voltage battery setup. I've put together an ideal setup for beginners and experienced users alike here:

For a crash course of common juice delivery devices, click on this link for a picture dictionary I made for beginners:

If you are much more comfortable starting with a cigalike setup, the best is Smokeless Image's Volt system. If you go with a startup kit from there, do yourself a favor and also order one of the larger X2 Spinner batteries for use at home. All of Smokeless Image's gear are intercompatible. They also offer a large selection of e-juice flavors from two manufacturers.

Which Blu system do you have?
The Premium 100 is light years better than the original.
Still the cartridges are expensive. Volcano and Jet Cigs also sell cartridges, that fit and work well with the Blu batteries.
I would recommend avoided V2. Their flavors totally suck.
I thought the Vea might be a good option. Since it works for me, and I like to keep things simple. Especially since you are already used to vaping JC flavors. It's the same setup as the Blu. Battery and filled cartomizer. It's just a bit bigger and fatter. Also the manual battery takes some getting used to. Like the other guys have mentioned. Smokeless Image Volt is a great option too.

I started with volts and been using them for almost 6 months. The cartos last me too many refills to count...probably 20 or more. I go thru 3-4 mil a day, so a pack of 5 cartos last me over a month. I also clean and reuse them. My wife uses darker juices and she gets a little less life out of them.

Volt cartomizers are just that a cartridge and atomizer in one...so no separate atomizer.

You can use blanks or you can get pre-filled as long as you refill with the same or similar flavor. I do both. I'm a fan of their classic grape so I get the pre-filled grape and then refill from a bottle. For other flavors I get elsewhere, I use blanks.

This is an eGo style 650 mah with a clearo on it. It's small, holds enough liquid for a while and will last for 6+ hours steady vaping.

Food for thought

I started vaping just over a month ago with a V2 starter kit given to me at Christmas.
I liked the simplicity of just a battery & cartridge.
Since that time though I have upgraded a bit.
I have really enjoyed the 808 military batteries sold by The Vapor Girl e-store, along with the CE5 clearomizers (refillable/rebuildable tank-like cartridges) also sold by The Vapor Girl.
I would post links but not sure how link friendly ECF is, but a simply google search for The Vapor Girl should work just fine.
Go into the batteries section, then to 808 section (that's the thread format for the equipment)
808's for me work, no need to make sure you have the right ohms or voltages.
I've never tried any other more adjustable voltage equipment so maybe I don't know what I'm missing but for me, simplicity is key.
808 is great in that regard.

+1 for eGo Twist. VV makes a lot of difference and there's no reason not to have it unless you really want a cig-a-like. I used to have the eGo-T (tank) system but now I really like the flexibility of my Vivi Nova minis. You can replace the heads ($2-3) or even rebuild the coil/wick assembly if you're so inclined.
