Hey everyone. This is rather embarrassing, but I just HAVE to know if anyone else has experienced this. I notice little wispy grayish/black stuff from time to time in my mucous when I blow my nose. Most of the time, it only happens when I'm sick and frequently blowing my nose. I admit that I had gone back to smoking analogs for several months, but I've been smoke-free for about the past two months, and yet, I was still seeing the black gunk in my mucous about a month ago when I was sick.

So does anyone else get this? And does it ever go away? I'm thinking it must be remnants of the tar in my lungs from my 4+ years as a smoker. That's my theory, anyway.

Thanks!
Heather

Hi, I don't know if you'll see this as OP was here in April but I'll add it anyhow. My Dad was 83 when he had heart attack with resulting surgery he was in recovery and coughing up massive amounts of discolored mucus. He asked doctor about this and doc asked if he smoked my Dad told him no he had smoked cigars but quit 40 years ago. Doctor claimed discolored mucus was from smoking 40 years prior to event ! My father never had a smokers cough and was a very physically active man. I was skeptical of doctors opinion but never really researched the topic as to how long tar residue remains in lungs.
