Hi,

As stated previously, new member. I placed 2 orders with a Canadian vaping supplier and used my credit card, which has not been used in over a year. Well received from credit card company, asking me to verify purchases recently. My two purchases were recorded and others that were denied. One for a body piercing shop and some hotel and something about paypal, which I have not used for years. So to make a long story short, someone was trying to use my credit card. Which has been canceled and new one on the way. Be Careful with your payments!!!!

I have a credit card that I use exclusively for online purchases which has pretty much been for pvs and vaping supplies. I did have a store call me from the northern part of my state asking me about a purchase for some kind of robotic vacuum.

It didn't go though and I reported it and cancelled that card. Since the card never leaves the house, I don't know how it happened.

I was just hacked yesterday. My dumb ... was using my bank card which is associated to my checking account! Whoever hacked me, made 4 random internet purchases before my bank noticed fraudulent activity and suspended my card. I didnt know any of this was happening until I was at the grocery store with my daughter and my card kept getting declined!

I am furious about this! I know exactly how this happened. My web browser (Google Chrome) even popped up at me warning me about entering sensitive info on that website because of the type of encryption they were using. But because this has never happened to me before, I just proceded without thinking that something like this would happen to me.

So now I have to wait for a new bank card and also find a new supplier for my vaping needs. Be careful out there, YOU NEVER KNOW WHO"S WATCHING!!!!!!

Also beware gas stations and any other physical shops. In our area some guy got access to the keys that open the gas pumps and installed credit card skimmers into the wiring inside the gas pumps and it went undetected for quite a while. Prior to that there were incidents around the country of skimmers mounted outside of ATMs and other credit or bank card automatic payment devices, right over the real card slot, so your card went through the skimmer then into the real slot. And my credit card info got stolen down south in a gas station where I had to hand my card to someone inside.

Also - I never ever let a website remember my credit card info. I always look for a checkbox for that and make sure it is not set for it to remember my info. The fewer places your info is stored the better.

Another good thing to do, instead of using a debit card, use a credit card if possible. This may vary from state to state, not sure, but here it is a lot easier to recover a credit card loss (according to the guy at my bank, anyway). I'm thinking I should use a dedicated credit card strictly for online purchases & nothing else.

I work in customer service for a bank, dealing with lost/stolen debit cards. The safest way to use a card online is to use a prepaid visa or mastercard. Load it with how much you need to spend and no more. For everyday purchases locally use cash. I know it is a pain but recovering from a credit theft is much more painful.

What is email money transfer??? Is that something only used in Canada?

Yea a lot of Canadian vendors use this method for payment in lieu of paypal or credit cards.. I'm guessing it's because nicotine products are technically banned up here which makes paypal reluctant to provide service to online vendors.

I second the pre-paid card for online purchases. You also may be able to access your credit card account online and enable notification options. I have mine set up to email me for any transaction over $1. That way, I get an email on my Android phone every time there's a charge on my card. Time is everything when your card gets hijacked. You don't want to discover this when you get your bill in the mail. You want instant notification of charges.

Make a new icon for this on your desktop and use it whenever you buy online. It is impossible for a keylogger to grab info when using mouse clicks. %SystemRoot%\system32\osk.exe

This is false, to everyone involved, PLEASE STOP giving misinformation regarding the virtual keyboard being able to avoid keyloggers.

The only thing that would be circumvented would be if someone was trying to use a hardware keylogger/keystroker (PS2, USB, RF) to capture information.

One issue is that some merchants use systems that, once the order is placed, email information (including card information) back to the merchant for processing. Now, I don't know which do this, but this is just one more thing to look out for.
