Awful burnt smell and taste, Errr

I ordered a Riva and got it Saturday.

Came with a LR atty, and two regular attys.
Smoked from all three of them, but yesterday I realized the LR atty has an AWFUL and I mean nasty smell and taste to it. I thought cleaning it out would fix it, but I was wrong, I can still smell a bad burnt smell in it. I pulled the wick out from underneath the bridge and I can see burn marks on the wick and what looks to be a spring underneath the bridge.
Weird though it hasn't been used a lot, just put some grape in it to try it.

Now my regular atty that came with the Riva is having the same issue.
Gross burnt smell and taste. Although on this one it doesn't look like the wick is burnt. But I did notice that on this atty the whole thing inside the atty housing moves. I took a paper clip, bent the end of it so it looks like an L and stuck it under the bridge, and pulled up a little bit, and all the guts off the atty are about to come out.

I cleaned both of them with hot water and vodka for the alcohol 40%.
I haven't had this problem with my Joye 510, and I have been smoking on the same one for over a month now with numerous people trying it.

Is this a common problem? What should I do?
I figured I would come here before I contacted the vendor.

You did blow out the primer, right?
Also - be advised the vendor may not take the atties back if you've pulled the wick out - they can't resell it or return it to the manufacturer if it's been taken apart, although they may do (just putting it out there). Wickless atties are ok for dripping with btw - but using carts with them isn't advised as they wont wick well (no wick..lol).
The one that isn't wickless, well it sounds weird if you say it looks like its falling apart inside; that doesn't sound right at all to me.
Are you keeping them really moist? Dry atties die fast - I believe LR atties are even worse with this although I haven't useed any myself, but I've seen a few posts about keeping them wet (moreso than reg atties). If youve washed them they will need re-priming and htat can take a bunch of drips (and primer puffing) - some people use as many as 10 drops or more to re-prime (if it floods just blow it out)

I didn't remove the wick, I just pulled it out from underneath the bridge so I can see it.
The wick is still intact and in there but I moved it around so I could see if it was burnt and sure as hell it is.

From this experience I will never buy a LR atty just because it needs soooo much juice.

But yeah all the guts in the normal atty are loose, and seem to wanna come right out of the atty housing. Is that bad?I have 3 other attys and none of them do that

I've had the bad taste/smell occur in a standard 510 atty before. No matter what I did I couldn't get rid of it. I never had this problem with my LR attys and typically they perform well and last a while. My first one I used for about 6 weeks and it still worked but was gunked up pretty bad. At the price I paid there is no reason to mess around with it just toss it and onto the next one. They do go through juice much much faster than standard attys though.

I use LR attys all the time...and yes you need to keep them wet...But for me, they work great...I tried a regular atty yesterday and could feel and taste the difference...Alot less TH and the the flavor seemed to be lacking a little...But,,,like everyone here says....

If they are all loose and dont perform well (and you havent pulled any apart lol) then speak to the vendor about them. Ive not used any LR atties myself so I can't speak on the consistency in manufacture of them.

LR atties need to be pretty wet or they will taste burnt. Also... wicks do not burn! they are made of silica and the temp required to burn them cannot be produced by the atomizer. However.... Juices never evaporate %100. The stuff that gets left behind can gum up the wick and make it crusty and burnt looking. That said, leaving the wick in a glass of water overnight and blowing water through it keeps my wicks plenty clean.

I keep a shot glass with some water in it in my kitchen. When I feel its time to switch atties I toss the old on in the glass. I tend to let them sit for a few days before I clean, rinse, and blow them out.
