Traver, the government didn't give the smokers a choice on an untested and what I believe unhealthy addition to what they consider an unhealthy product. Perhaps it's a new attitude with RIP, Quit or Die a lot faster. Not that I vape a lot these days (thank you Swedish snus, a long term tested product), but when I do I feel I'm doing much less harm than I did smoking the latest incarnation of the cigarette.
This isn't the first time the government has stepped in and forced/mandated/agreed with the
tobacco industry to on changes to cigarettes. They were originally, at least, complicit in having the
tobacco companies offer low tar and nicotine cigarettes as a safer alternative than smoking. Heck, it was under their recommendations that I did so. Then years later they came back and said they were more dangerous than full flavored smokes because you smoked more.
Now after claiming that and forcing the tobacco industry to remove the light and ultra light designation from the packs, you have former FDA commissioner Kessler suggesting that the FDA force the tobacco industry to reduce the nicotine in cigarettes so they're not "so addicting". Circular logic at its best.
