Especially to Elaine and Kristen and all the others, I emailed ASH New Zealand, mailnly because their website is devoid of any mention of e-cigs or smokeless tobacco. They have relentlessly campaigned against smoking in NZ for as long as I can remember. The only thing they recommend to stop smoking is NRT or prescription meds. Anyway, I got a reply saying they are "aware of the benefits of electronic cigarettes" and that my email will be forwarded to someone else.
As a New Zealander, I know that ASH has influence and some power in policy making in New Zealand. I think CASAA could have some influence here too, especially in light of the fact that the NZ health ministry recently said that e-cigs are much safer than smoking. Details of this have already been posted on ECF

I am surprised that they made this statement! To admit that e-cigs are beneficial is a big step for these folks. Hmmm, do I see a crack in the armor?

The most influential voice in New Zealand is Dr. Murray Laugesen. He recently testified to the government urging them to allow sales of electronic cigarettes in N.Z.
