I just got into carto tanks myself and this is what I have learned. A tank is a tank. Some has extra features like fill holes on the top or side. Pyrex glass or plastic, locking caps and of course aesthetics. Where you are going to succeed or fail is in your carto, with amount of holes needed and how you prime you cart. Higher VG thicker juices need more holes or slots and higher PG thinner juices you can get away with just one hole. If you punch them yourself you need to be careful not to crush the carto and position them correctly.
How well your carto will perform has a lot to do with how well you prime it and dont flood it or leave it dry.
Its a learning experience but one I believe will push my evods out the door.

This is all JMO from a new carto user but again its what I have taken away. Baditude is a great person to look up and read his blogs.

Exactly my findings thus far as well. You can have $400 phiniac custom (not that they are that pricey), but if your carto is junk/ not primed properly... well... it won't matter what kind of mod that $400 phiniac is on. It's going to be a horrid vape. God help you if you didn't prime and break in the carto right... you'll only ever fire and suck on a non primed carto once.

Bad, your blogs, Ocelot's blogs (yes especially the BOBO blog(s) and Hoosier's should just be stickied. Soooooooooooo much knowledge in those things.... and its easy to read and make sense of too...

About the elevation changes, yeah, tanks will flood their cartos, clearos will seep out wherever they can, juice bottles can leak.... that's why when the missus and I went up to the mountains back in April for a vacation, I put everything in its own little ziplock, save for what I was actively vaping from. Someone here had posted it, I took it to heart, and luckily my socks did in fact NOT smell of menthol....

...though in hindsight, that mighta been better....

Just an FYI about carto tanks if you travel up into the mountains much. The change in elevation will cause a carto to flood bigtime. I found that out the hard way :(

Affirmative... I can have nothing filed when I go up to Huntington, flood big time and up in a plane as well...yes, no problem taking it on a plane, didnt use it, just for when I departed.

Even Protanks Hoff?? Ive went all the way up to Mono Hot springs with no issues. Vivi Novas on the other hand flooded to high heaven. I originally started with a carto tank and thats where the nitemare began, lol. 4 days into analog free we went up to a wine and choco thing in Huntington. everything flooded, all spares. i panicked, bought a pack of stinkies in shaver, smoked a fraction of one and handed them to a guy standing outside the store that wanted to bum one. I just sucked it up till i got home and realized what had happened. The protank has been such a godsend for me in this vaping endeavor. Ease to use, and very little to no hassle at all.

I've only had a cartotank for three days, and I'm about to give up on the entire concept. The whole idea of having to prime the filler, shake, prime, shake and then fill the tank is annoying. Then there's the flooding of the battery should the tank somehow slide off of the cartomizer. I lost 2-3 ml of Boba's when I grabbed the setup by the topper to go get the Vapemail. While the flavor and vapor production is good, it's about as good as I'm getting with an MT3S or an Evod.

It may be the cheap construction of the tank, or maybe I'm doing it wrong and need more practice. I'm gonna give this one another go but if the flavor doesn't absolutely blow the BCC experience away, I'm moving on. If something is gonna be a hassle, it has to deliver a benefit that exceeds the annoyance and so far, that ain't happnin.

Two observations from your post. First, you admitted that you have a cheap tank (Smoktech DCT?). That tank, as well as many of the tanks in that price range are not going to perform or handle like a tank in the $25+ range. A quality-made cartotank will have a higher quality of manufactured parts with proper fitting o-rings to hold onto the carto. My IBTanks (a $25 pyrex cartotank) have never slid off the carto, they fit snug enough on the carto that I can pick my mod up with them (although this practice should not be routine for common sense reasons). A higher quality tank would eliminate your problem in that instance.

Second, Boba's is a challenging juice for any tank, clearo or carto. Not only is it extremely thick in viscosity, it has a lot of particulate matter in it (flavoring particles?) which will clog the filler or silica wicks prematurely. If you vape for Boba's then you should try a drip atomizer or bottom feeder mod which do not use filler or wicks.

Once you get the routine down for filling and assembling a cartotank, you can perform this function in under 5 minutes using my method. Once set up, a cartotank is maintanance-free except for refilling the tank. The positives of a cartotank are well worth this to me.
