coil lead ends facing the same direction (like one for the aqua) will have a high (or over the top) on one side, the opposite end will be low(or underneath) the only way I know of avoiding this, is change direction in the center of coil.

Ah; ok I see what you're saying now;

Thanks.

You can still square up the coil but divrr's suggestion just makes it easier and there is much less stress on the outer coil wraps to keep them tighter for a an even glow which improves the wicking and vapor massively. Coil build has significant impact on the operation of the overall device. It is the heart of the atomizer.

Also, if you want coils to have opposite leads all you do is start one wrap "over" the top of your mandrel then with the next coil, start the wrap "under" the mandrel. If you start your wrap the same way twice, the leads will not have opposite low and high ends making the dual build impossible. That is if you want to perfect your builds:)

just took this apart after 2-3 days of of perfect vaping and as many as 10 refills. Rayon. I will put new coils on. Cleaning used coils leaves crappy after taste imho.

Thanks man. That's exactly what I wanted to see. What gauge kanthal are you using? And what resistance was that build? Thanks

I went on and built a dual after burning the wicking on my single I built. Tell me how it looks, criticisms, etc.
That should be good, looks great as far as I can tell. The only difference in my aqua build is I opt for a slightly less diameter, this gives me more turns and a slightly longer coil. It's a give and take with resistance and wire gauge to get a perfect blend of flavor, power, and heat up time. I have had the best results with a 1.8mm diameter, 27g wire and I think 7 wraps. You coil looks good. Actually looked a little closer and the back coil looks kind of wonky. I think the lenght of coil is to short, I would recommend a longer coil for better wick coverage. A longer coil could create more lag time though so you may have to lower resistance, diameter n and wire gauge. Try yours first, if it performs good it fine.

Absolutely, great point on coil wrap direction. Depending on what device I am doing coils for, I always think what what direction would work best. I think about it in terms of clockwise or CC. Take for instance the aqua tank, if you attach all leads between the posts, and use the different nut configuration, like you saidn one coil will be clockwise and the other CC.

How long should it take for the coil to get glowing orange? I have a 6 wrap single coil, 28 gauge and it takes 5 seconds to go from room temp to orange.
5 seconds sounds a little long imo. What is the resistance of each coil? By the looks maybe .8? If so these coils should lite up pretty quickly. Just as a guess I'm thinking they should be fully glowed by half that time. Things that will lag the coil is to much wire (which shouldn't be your issue). Also connection issues, if your leads are not making good contact with the posts or connect is loose. Also not enough power in mod because of wonky batteries or to much voltage loss. Do you know what your voltage is after loss? some mechs may not be great in this aspect, couple that with not so great battery's and dirty contacts with not so great connections and you would be surprised on what the voltage drop can actually be. What you think is a fresh battery at 4.2v, may only be 3 volts or less to coils. At 3 volts and let's say a .6 ohm dual coil your basically pushing 15 watts. 15 watts for 2 coils isn't really alot and definitely take some time to heat. I know when I fire my coils they heat up pretty darn fast, and they are freaked bright, they are more then orange, they are bright orange almost yellowish.

What is your power source? An eGo battery?

btw use a multimeter to check the voltage under load.

(voltage 'under load' means you attach multimeter to the posts on the aqua, and press the fire button, and check the actual voltage when power goes to the coil)
