I've ordered a starter kit, and my wife told me she's concerned about it driving our cats wild, as supposedly PG does this to them. So I doubt just the vapor would be enough, however, anyone vape around cats and notice anything weird?
yeah i have a tonkinese house cat and it doesnt bother him one bit. i vape everything from 100%pg to 100%vg. he likes to wacth the vapor clouds and sometimes chase them but as far as my cat and my vaping.... doesnt bother him at all but YMMV
Don't blow the vapor near them as it can cause a certain type of anemia in them. My cats go crazy when I vape switchblade from FSUSA. I literally have to beat them off of me.
King, I have 10 cats and none are bothered by it and it has been over 2 years now. Dont worry. I dont blow it in their face. Also have 2 dogs and no one is bothered by the vape. nothing to be concerned about. Never let your pets come in contact or get into your juice. I am very careful of that.
No problems here with the cats. Well, I do have to be careful not to leave carts, bottles, and parts laying around or she'll carry them off to play with (and possibly get sick from the nic in it).
Have heard not to blow PG vapor in cats face.
Some cats don't take PG well (healthwise) if i recall right.
Have vaped around my cat for 3 1/2 monthes with no adverse signs.
I just try to keep vapor away from direct contact.
There IS a thread re: this somewhere on ECF.
Will look around for it .
My GF's 8 cats, yes I said 8 (2 are mine by default), don't seem to have any adverse effects from my vaping. :crosses fingers: I don't blow it at them, well, except for the evil one (expendable), so hopefully no illness ensues (exc the expendable one/ that one could keel-over for all I care).
Anyone want an evil cat? You'd be preventing possible cat-vapisticulosis! She'll never miss it. Seriously. Please? Anyone?
I have 2 cats & one of them is my little buddy haha anyway the vaping does not botter him a bit, in fact I think he likes it! and health wise he is fine. Just keep the juice away from them .
My feral buddies outside the inlaws' house don't seem to mind and they did mind the smell of smoke.
The PG <> cat anemia connection is with eating PG in amounts greater than what is in cat food.
"Propylene glycol (PG) is a common cause of HzB in cats. PG is a polyhydric alcohol used commonly as a solvent and preservative in pharmaceuticals, and as an inexpensive carbohydrate source in semi-moist foods for animals.3 PG does not directly cause oxidative damage. It is believed that adelhyde intermediates created during PG metabolism react with amino and sulfhydryl groups on the hemoglobin molecule.3 Cats fed PG at levels higher than what is typically found in commercial foods have a marked increase in HzB formation (up to 91% of RBCs affected), as well as other RBC abnormalities such as increased adhesion to surfaces, production of ghost cells, and increased membrane fragility.3 Studies have shown that cats on commercial PG-containing diets are more susceptible to the effects of oxidative stress induced by acetominophen administration, displaying increased HzB and methemoglobin formation, relative to cats on PG-free diets.11 This increased susceptibility may have important clinical consequences in the presence of endogenous oxidative stress as occurs with diseases such as diabetes mellitus, hyperthyroidism, lymphoma, and hepatic lipidosis. The feeding of PG containing diets to cats should be avoided."
Yeah I knew about the amemia and I wasn't really concerned about that from just the vapor, I was more worried about the PG driving them wild. For instance my wife had bought some deodorant with a high PG content and she says the cats went nuts, had to fight them off to stop them from trying to lick her underarms, had to wash it off and throw it out For some reason the glycol thing gets them pretty turned on, like EG which is why you want to be careful with antifreeze around them. After hearing all this though I'm not worried, I smoke tobacco inside, and it would be pretty ironic if I switched to vaping but had to do it outside
One of my cats like it, the other hates it. I read up on the cat induced anemia, and it requires PG in larger amounts than they are likely to get... even if they were vaping.
Does mean keep your e-juice away from your cats, and be careful with the paper towels or whatever you use to clean up after filling. Kitty + ejuice = dead kitty (cause of nicotine poisoning)
I have a tomcat who, of course, did not deign to notice my cigarette smoke, and who will not now lower himself to notice my vaping. His highness cannot be concerned with mere mortals and their habits. I don't blow in his face, of course. I wouldn't blow clean air in his face, as this might encourage his royal wrath. My curtains would suffer mightily.
I have two cats. I can't say I've tried blowing vapor in their faces but, I haven't avoided them when I'm vaping. They're still cats. I don't see any effect at all.
My cat avoided me like tha plague when I smoked cigarettes. Now that I vape exclusively he hangs out near me all the time. We've become great pals now instead of strangers passing in the night. Now you tell me it's because he's attracted to PG. All the time I thought he really liked me. I'm devastated.
Thanks for the anemia update. I just read it somewhere awhile back about it so I don't even blow the vapor anywhere near them. The only one that gets more vapor than the others is my lap buddy. She has to be everywhere I am...but I'm still careful to blow it away from her. Thank you dormouse for the info.
