Smoked 1-1 1/2 PAD for almost 20 yrs and have now quit for 70 days today. I know this sounds strange, but I'm getting a bit upset that I haven't coughed after quitting. I've quit several times before, longest has been three months, I have to say I have NEVER had the "quit cough".

It really bums me out because I would like to so I feel like tar and crap is cleaning out. I actually always look forward to this part of quitting because I feel like it would be a whole cleansing process. I just feel like maybe its always gonna just stick in my lungs.

Anyone else out there smoked for many, many years, quit and never cough?

I had the terrible smoker's hack and nastiness especially while sleeping. Smoked for 30 years, PAD, and never coughed anything up after I started vaping. I also felt a little jipped that I didn't get that confirmation that my body was clearing out. But my wheezing was gone in about a week, and I don't cough at all anymore, so I know I'm healthier now.

Hey there! I'd started coughing when I smoked. It was really beginning to worry me but of course I continued smoking. I was a 15 year newport smoker & I smoked a carton a week at least at the time I made the switch. I haven't had any coughing since I quit & started vaping. I was expecting to but never did.

I never had a smokers cough. Before quitting nor after I started to vape. It could be that we did process all that out in a different way. Looking back, I had some phlegm in the mornings towards the end of my smoking days. Nothing like a smokers cough though. Maybe we weren't deep lung inhalers? I did used to get bronchitis almost every year as smoker. I wonder if that got rid of a lot of the buildup during the illness. Lord knows I would cough up a ton of crap then. I do notice that I don't cough up those little gel like balls anymore. Hmmm Now that I think back, I didn't have the "quit cough" but I did have a little something for a little while.

I have a friend that quit cold turkey about 2 months before me. She keeps asking me if I was coughing up black fish eggs yet ? she still is...but she had a smokers hack BAD for the last 2 years I would sometimes think she was going to die when she would cough...bad rattle when breathing and cough till she was in a ball sopping wet. Watching her was the reason I wanted to quit when I started with the cough I started having...but I never had the smokers hack

I think your in to something here. I was more of a "throat smoker" if there's such a thing. Don't get me wrong, I did do my share of lung inhaling. But mostly quick, short puffs and kinda held it in my throat more. Explains why I love TH so much while vaping.

And I would also get bronchitis 1-2x's a yr and cough my brains out during those times. I'm hoping ur rights maybe these Bronchitis times cleared some crap out..just would be nice to have an after quit cough even if it was just a week. Kinda weird that Id LIKE to have a coughing spell! LOLOLOLOLOL!!!

I also have not had the anticipated 'cleansing cough'.

My chest x-rays of 5 years ago had the beginning signs of emphysema. After over two years vaping since then, my x-rays are normal!

So I'm sure that our internal system is absorbing and 'flushing' the ol' nasties away.

THIS IS AWESOME!!!! Makes me feel way better hearing that you did not have the quit cough, yet have proof w/X-rays showing you are healing!!!!!!! Good for you!! :toast:

Can I ask how long you smoked and how many/day? I know I've done damage and having bronchitis 1-2/yr I think can lead to COPD so I was freaking out and knew I had to quit. So stopping analogs and any healing is better than none!!!!!
